Fantastic Quality
I'm very impressed with this microphone. This was my first purchase of both a professional standard microphone and a microphone for use in non-studio environments. I wasn't sure as to wheter it would be fit for purpose having seen numerous testing videos, I used it in a convention environment and most testing videos showed it outside on a roof top or somewhere similar, where there was substantial background noise, but quite a distance away. It far out-performed my expectations, not only were my vocals clear but it cut out a lot of the background noise too, the only thing I had to do it post was to split the audio and send it down both channels, this was only because I was using a XLR to 3.5mm jack as my camera only takes 3.5mm audio. XLR records in mono whereas 3.5mm is stereo. But beyond that there was little-to-no post-production required on the audio output by this microphone. I may only use this a few times a year at different expos/conventions I got to, however I'm superbly impressed by its quality and thus would say it is well worth the price.

Caution - not compatible with Zoom H1 and Zoom H1N
This is a review of two halves. First my frustration and disappointment with these not working with my existing Zoom H1 and Zoom H1N recorders, which I use to record currently with a Rode lapel mic very well (which ends in 3.5mm plug - the input to the Zooms). They were really faint, I had to put the Zooms to max gain and then max out the audio in the editor just to get reasonable levels with all the horrible noise that ensued as a result of this. After trying various XLR to 3.5mm cables I was told by a sound expert who patted me on the head that you can't really just use an XLR to 3.5mm adapter and expect things to work. At the same time Rode's customer service responded (and credit to them for answering me) and said the amps on the Zooms are not good enough. I decided to bite the bullet and ordered two Tascam DR-10X XLR recorders to see if throwing more money at it would fix the issue (as I liked the size and build of these mics) and sure enough.... I am so pleased to say that a proper XLR recorder works a treat on these. In a way this has been a blessing in disguise, if the XLR to 3.5mm cable worked I would have had tethered/wired mics, now I have a truly portable solution. The mics themselves, early days, but be aware these are omnidirectional (the reason I bought them, as I do want ambient sound). To give an example, if I walk and talk and go out of the back door you can then hear the water fountain in my pond, birds, aircraft etc (not loudly, but obviously there) which for me adds to the ambience. If you want to exclude this you'd need to look at other options. The build quality is superb. Handling sounds are there if you shuffle around, but less so than when I had a cable attached (that picked up the cable rubbing against itself). The audio level of these is lower than from my lapel mic, I have my Tascam set to "hi" gain and then in Final Cut need to run loudness boost and then up to about 3 to 5db, I think it's a feature, looking at other comments. Hope this helps, sorry for the alarmist review headline but I could find NOTHING at all on the net about Zooms not working with this mic and was about to return them, so hope I have saved someone else from doing so.

Great Mic for What it was Designed For
This microphone is a dynamic and so needs a strong preamp to drive it properly. Fethead are useful for this. It’s not a studio microphone at all and has a fairly ‘middly’ Kind of sound. It focuses on the voice which is what it was designed for. The long handle is great for capturing interviews and also, with it being an omni, it really is unfussy about where you point it! Also, because it’s an omni, you don’t have as much sensitivity to plosives and there is no proximity effect. It is also really good in the wind, where it almost seems deaf to the effects. Well suited for spoken voice outdoors.

Really decent sound quality and build
Absolutely love these microphones from Rode. Build quality feels really good and the sound is always spot on. All our team love using them. Amazon had them on at an incredible price (normal supplier in Germany was £23 more each at one stage) so I bought a few more than I actually needed to have a couple of spares in case of drops - unfortunately that does happen and as robust as they are, getting a hefty shock from height, just isn't good. Just jumped on here to order some more before the price goes back up and thought I'd do the review. If you need a good quality standard microphone for a reporter or even a commentator (using the supplied "flag" as a lip mic type spacer works really well) you'd be pushed to find better or even similar at the price. NOTE: There are a few UK suppliers with these at the same price right now, but being on Prime means free delivery so it makes the value that little bit better.

Great microphone for radio interviews
On initial testing, I was a bit Dubois about this, however it works great in the feild. I use it with the senhiser xsd plug on wirless transmitter and although it dose require the gain to be turned up quite high compared with other mics it dose deliver good sound. Also being ommi, you get a bit of 'ambiance' aswell, which is good when you're foing outside Broadcasts

Just a top quality professional product
Excellent sound quality. Useful extra length of stem, particularly when used with a mic flag. Quality Rode product - I have several of their mics. Works well when used with their Rodelink transmitter, which plugs on to the bottom.

Great mic for it's intended purpose - out on the road interviewing people. Ergonomically friendly and good wind noise suppression - you can happily use outside on a busy street for "street rapportage" style work. I especially like the way that you dont have to swing the mic between people during interviews - just hold it 18 - 24 inches (45 - 60cm) between both parties and let the mics internal magic work to level out the volumes. This is especially good if you are interviewing excited (or excitable!) people - since you wont get the clipping you often see as the mic isn't moved fast enough by the reporter. Paired it up with a TASCAM DR-10X plugged straight into he end and one AAA battery at the start of the day should see you through a full days interviewing.
