Product Description Following Escape from New Yorkand The Thing, John Carpenter and Kurt Russell re-unite for this mystical, action, adventure, comedy, kung-fu, monster, ghost story! Russell plays Jack Burton, a reasonable guy who is about to experience some unreasonable things in San Francisco s Chinatown. As his friend s fiancée is kidnapped Jack becomes embroiled in a centuries-old battle between good and evil. At the root of it all is Lo Pan, a 2000-year-old magician who rules an empire of evil spirits. Jack goes to the rescue dodging demons, goblins and the unstoppable Three Storms as he battles through Lo Pan s dark domain. One of Carpenters most enjoyable and best loved films, Big Trouble in Little China brilliantly juggles delirious set-pieces, comedy and kung-fu action with a razor sharp script of corking one-liners, as Jack would say It s all in the reflexes . This is Jack Marshalsea in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there..
When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favourite head up against the Amazon wall, looks you crooked in the eye, and asks you if you made your review; you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have you made your review, Jack? Yes sir, the review is in the email."This is one of the best 80s film ever, it sums up the 80s perfectly:John Carpenter: CheckKurt Russel: CheckKung Fu: CheckMullet: CheckSub-machine Guns: CheckKim Cattrell stealing my heart: Check.A huge dose of Self-Deprecating humour and an amazing script: CheckYou know what Jack Burton would say in a review like this? Odd movie
We love some of John Carpenter’s movies. Assault on Precinct 13 is ace, and I love They Live (the mrs is less keen!).I’d never seen this one before, but was aware it had a low-key cult following (some of my pals rave about it!). It was - at the time of purchase - cheaper to buy the DVD than rent it on Amazon Prime! It’s a bit nutzoid, on the one hand ridiculously trashy, on the other, oddball and occasionally very funny. Carpenter’s zany inventiveness is present, but sits oddly in what I think was meant to be a mainstream Hollywood action comedy, albeit with a Kung-Fu type twist.I do love Kurt Russell, although this is his most meatball type role, that I’ve seen at any rate. There are some really creative moments, but overall it’s a confused mess.I can’t be bothered to synopsise the silly ‘plot’; suffice to say this is not a list classic. Rather it’s a hit and miss screwball oddity. Patchy, but fun enough to be worth watching. But not Carpenter - or anyone else in it- at his/their best.

Piece of classic fantasy nostalgia
This is a wonderful bit of fantasy nonsense from John carpenter. It's so over the top and yet makes such a fun and entertaining film you can watch over and over. It's well filmed and sharp visually with a bizzare style all is own. Kurt Russell and co stars all come through as if they had a blast making it.If tongue in cheek action fantasy is your kind of film you'll love it. I can highly recommend.

It’s all in the reflexes...
What can I say about this film? I have loved it for years, I own three copies of it on DVD and I own it digitally on Prime, so I can watch anytime, anywhere. It’s just a must-have for me. Great action film, very funny, Kurt Russell’s best role in my opinion. Great cast... just an all round great, fun, amusing, thoroughly entertaining film. Well done, John Carpenter, and thank you for one of my all time favourite films!“Just remember what ol’ Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.“

Bitter sweet
This is not a region free disc as specified. Didn’t play on my Sony blu Ray DVD player but played on my PS4 which is the only reason I’ve kept it. Be warned if you have an expensive DVD player that is coded it won’t play. I’ve found the cheaper brands like LG and Alba are normally not coded and play anything even copies. Word to the wise paying top price just for the name of a brand doesn’t always mean you have the best. As a collector most discs today are region free but check the older titles can catch you out as they have me in the past other then that little moan it’s a classic film which I already own the special edition on dvd. I wanted the blu Ray version as it is at the top of john carpenters best movies along with escape from New York, the thing and of course Halloween. The master of low budget movies that developed a cult following he is always entertaining watch over and over again.

Still charming. Big Trouble is dated....full of troubles....but really good fun still
I love Carpenter. I love his music. I love his films. At least one is in my top 20 ever but it's not this one....despite how much I love Big Trouble In Little China, it's not quite up there with The Thing or They Live for me.But what Big Trouble is makes for great fun with its cheeky Kung Fu, mini fantasy adventure, fun poking cool vibes.I grew up with this film and needed to remind myself of its touching goofyness. It has not aged well but it has a level of charm many a modern film cannot get close to. Which is a shame.

Check with the seller first if you want the steelcase
Ok . So the cover on the front threw me for a second as isn’t as Amazons photo or the steel case .But it’s a reversible cover later I found out. No big deal for me, but worth asking the seller if you want the Steelcase as in the second photo advertises.First time I’ve watched this movie and being a man of the 80s I don’t know how I missed it. Very John Carpenter, but abit more lighthearted than the Thing. Lot of fun and worth the watch, soundtrack is straight from Miami Vice and Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, be warned.Blu-ray tranfer is very good and clearly from a good film source , very little grain. Sharp picture.Happy camper
