It is is plastic and fits the jillions of these sort of octagon combo valve reveals that were installed in the late 1980s. The price was right when I bought three. Lather them up with carnauba car wax upon install/routinely for protection against h2o spots and NEVER use any abrasive cleaners on them. Great for updating your brass fixtures to plasti-chrome. Remember that everything is chrome in the future. Well, maybe not plasti-chrome, I heard polished brass was coming in vogue again, too late now...

I moved into a house that had a leaky Pfister shower faucet and pitted chrome so i searched for a good replacement to get it nice again. The package arrived very fast and looks exactly as the picture. The reason im giving this 3 stars is because the valve stem that it comes with is totally plastic and still leaked when i installed it. I ordered another plastic stem and yet again it leaked. I had to run to home depot and find the factory replacement which is stainless and Bam! no leaks. So beware if your buying this to fix a leak.

What was delivered was not what was advertised.For $33.06, I received a piece of plastic (not the stainless steel as advertised).The kit did not contain attaching screws.The center sleeve was too short.It's the cheapest piece of crap you can imagine.How can I give this no stars?The center sleeve was metal but super cheap, made of thin tin and it was too short and didn't even come out the front of the plate like it's supposed to (that's a safety mechanism, in case the valve starts to leak, water will come out into the shower and won't leak inside the wall). Kind of important, right?So, it didn't come all the way out of the handle when it was in place.Now I'll tell you why I bought it...After years and years of putting up with a very poor shower experience, I had tolerated a short shower neck that made me always have to angle my wide-angle shower head and always bend down to get underneath the shower. Believe it or not I put up with it for years! Dumb, right?So, finally I decided to upgrade everything.I bought a really nice "real chrome stainless steel" tall shower neck ...... that now centers over the middle of the shower.I soaked my really expensive Moen shower head in a vinegar bath and cleaned out all of partially clogged jets and cleaned it inside and outside nicely!I replaced the hot / cold cartridge valve so that I would enjoy the nice, smooth, pleasant hot / cold operating handle experience. Seriously effortless!I also purchased a nice chrome shower basket.So, of course, I figured I would top it off with this nice kit that boasts so strongly of being constructed of stainless steel chrome metal and a shiny new plastic handle. WELL I GUESS NOT!!!So, I decided to get medieval on the old used handle and cover. I took the old one down to bare metal, acid etch primered it, painted it w/ a few coats of metallic chrome Rustoleum paint (I happened to have 3/4 of a can in the garage).Also stripped / painted the center sleeve. All of the old screws too. Primed, painted.Multiple coats, slow oven dry .Scrubbed the original first plastic handle and polished it up. It looks brand new and still has the hot cold marks on it.I saved myself from using this cheap piece of crap made in "YOU KNOW WHERE"Put it all together... Awesome!Buy American when you can!

no problem with this order. price was also a plus. too bad they don't make this in a nickel finish. everything else in my bathroom is brushed nickel and I had no choice but to use this one chrome piece.

Perfect upgrade/replacement for current knob.

I updated my bath from brass to chrome. The update looks fabulous.
