Nokia A00008995 Lumia 820 Handset Windows Phone - Black

I have been a long time Nokia user. Last phones N97 mini (more than 3 years) and E65 before that. Finally, I have upgraded/switched to Nokia Lumia 820. Things I like 1. The phone is very fast. Screens and pages open extremely quickly. 2. The screen is big and bright, easy to see. 3. Reasonable prices for a phone (which can be dropped and broken). 4. Easy to make calls and send SMS. I use it mainly as a phone. 5. Excellent integration with Hotmail/Outlook and Messenger (the later in process of being killed). 6. Wireless charging is excellent (charger sold separately and I have one which is not Nokia branded). 7. Uses the same micro-sd from my old phone (with my music instantly transferred from the old phone). 8. Replaceable battery for the day when it does not hold enough charge for a day (seems to last for 3 days with very light use for now). 9. Touch screen is excellent and can be used with gloves and big fingers. 10. The customisable `Live tiles' and the ability to show large contacts on the main screen. 11. Maps can work offline (my carrier has prohibitively expensive data roaming charges/rates). 12. Most of my old applications are available for the new phone. Plenty of new applications and games. 13. Pictures and videos are very good for a phone. 14. `Find/ring/erase my phone' features. 15. `Free music' and offline music mixes from Nokia music. 16. Uses micro-usb charger and data cable (same as my old phones). 17. SkyDrive integration for pictures/videos and documents. 18. OneNote. 19. Easy to close applications which have been used and no longer needed. 20. Headphone jack is on the top. 21. Rigid back cover (requires some strength and practice to take out). 22. `Kids corner' Missing from N97 mini 1. Remote SIM for the Bluetooth which allowed my car to load the address book and show on the car's screen the name of the caller (only the number is displayed with Lumia 820) 2. The option which allowed the phone to pronounce the called name so you know who is calling even when you cannot see the phone screen (in the pocket and dirty hand, in the other room). 3. The pulse light which tells you that nothing needs attention when reunited with the phone (after a meeting for example). 4. The ease with which a song can be set as a ring tone. I do not understand why in 2013 I have to connect the phone to a PC and then copy (and maybe convert before) the song to the phone to be able to make it a ringtone (if want to use more than 20 sec of the song). 5. Stereo sound from the build in speakers Things which Nokia/Microsoft needs to improve on 1. DLNA player or application. 2. Backup/restore (especially the later) is very basic and does not meet my expectations (set by N97 and rival phones). 3. Vibration can be stronger. 4. Ring volume when on max can be stronger. 5. Skype integration with `Me'. 6. Ability to re-assign the third (search with Bing) button functionality (may be search in contacts only as a default). 7. Better multitasking for background applications. 8. Mute/un-mute button. On the whole it is an excellent phone for the next few years.

The phone is brilliant - clear screen, superb camera and excellent software. In particular, the Satnav app is better than anything else I've tried. It's a hefty piece of phone, and the case back is a little slippery, so it will take getting used to. In all other respects, the phone is superb. BUT - I ordered it a week ago, at £237, and already it's dropped to £199. Either play roulette with the prices, or bite the bullet and put up with price fluctuations! I'd be prepared to accept a fluctuation of a few pounds, but £38 is hard to stomach! UPDATE: I've been using the phone for a bit now, and I'm getting to know what it can do. I had a N97 Mini until the phone stopped holding a charge, and the difference from the creaky Symbian OS is considerable! Many people complain about the lack of "apps" for the WP8. I have to say that there isn't anything that I could have on an iPhone that I can't have on the Lumia, and several of the Nokia exclusives are brilliant, and there isn't an equivalent on the other platforms! Cinemagraph is great fun (adds little animated sections to a photo - the pictures are a bit like the ones in the Daily Prophet, with little sections of movement!), and the Nokia Satnav is the best I've tried. I've added my usuals, including Evernote, FB and Twitter and so on. The Camera is excellent, and the apps that support it (especially Smart Shoot) are brilliant. The screen is very clear and the colours are vivid. I haven't printed a photo to compare it with my Oly DSLR... but they look great on my laptop. The photos automatically back up to my Skydrive when I get to a wifi connection. Battery life is much better than I have been used to. After a day's moderate use (including the phone automatically checking my emails every 15 minutes), there is still some charge to go. The constant movement on the homescreen is fascinating, and careful arranging of the tiles makes the phone seem alive. It is quite mesmerising! Nothing is laggy or slow, and the OS is very simple to understand and use. I can't understand why the reviews are so against WP8. So- only one problem so far, and that is that none of my Nokia car mounts fit! The only official car mount for the 820 is the wireless charging one for £60.

I already had the chance to play with a Windows Phone of a friend and I got a good impression from it, therefore I decided to give it a go myself. Of all the Lumia, I wanted the 820 because despite it being a bit outdated now it is the last sporting high-end specs (for the time) and still coming with removable battery and micro SD slot, two features that for me are a must. Maybe this is why as of May 2014 the Lumia 820 is still so pricy despite being out of production. The phone is well built, feels solid, not slippery at all. Removing the back cover is a bit tricky but ideally you do not need to do it that often. Windows Phone 8 is elegant, sleek, the "bouncy" feeling adds to the user experience. It needs some time to get used to the UI if you come from Android or iOS, but then everything seems intuitive and even more rational, maybe just a bit restrictive if you are used to heavily customise your smarthone settings. I believe this is where Windows Phone 8 is showing its limits: everything is wonderful and rock solid, but you cannot avoid noticing that the OS is still in its infancy and features that are considered a given are still missing (like moving single configuration items to the tiles for quick access, or shortcut to the communication settings from the status bar, or in general more configurable details -sometimes it is limiting not being able to tweak them). I noticed that some of the apps/games I usually install on my Android phone are missing, but nothing that prevents me to use the Lumia: Office is a great addition and all the essential apps are there anyway (Skype, WhatsApp, Here maps and navigation). But please keep in mind that latest Google apps are not available. A wonderful, elegant, responsive and satisfactory smartphone+OS that would deserve 5 starts just for the feeling and UE. There are some limitations compared to phones of the same class from competitors therefore four stars are more a balanced judgment. Overall, this is really a great system and I hope Windows Phone will mature quickly because it deserves it. Hopefully WP 8.1 will bring the most wanted enhancements everyone is expecting (and I understand this Lumia 820 will get the updated too).

Yes this is the best mobile I have ever had ! I have had iPhone 3, 4, 4s, HTC One X and this by far is my favourite. Don't get me wrong, iPhones are great but now serious contenders are on the field, they are showing their weakness points. I personally don't like the android operating system, something just really niggles me about it, I think it's the speed, hesitation that neither Apple or Windows 8 shows. The windows 8 platform is fast, never hesitates, easy to use and full of features. Unlike apple you can download a ringtone app choose the tone and put it straight on your phone, no restrictions. I tried that on the iPhone 4 and it was a total nightmare, apple just don't want their phones to breathe, they are stranglled in many ways. I did read the reports regarding the 820 screen not being up to the iPhones standard and was a bit sceptical, once I powered it up though, I can't understand what all the fuss is about ?? The display is as good as any screen I have seen. The phone feels as solid as a brick compared to some of the plastic android phones out there. I'd say the build quality is to the same standard as apple but with greater functionality, you can replace the battery by yourself, insert bigger sd cards etc. Last thing the wireless charging is a dream, so easy to use,shame the pad was extra though ! Well done Nokia, I thought you were about to disappear from the scene, I think this phone could command a £600 Price tag on Par with iPhones, you are selling yourselves short !!!!

Let us proceed piece by piece, as Jack the Ripper would say. Just a small caveat. This review will be a perfect example of cognitive dissonance. Firstly, the phone is fantastic. The build quality is by far, better than anything I have owned in quite a while. The last mobile phone this good was a Motorola StarTac. The buttons are solid and well-built, headset and microphone clear and crisp. The shell of the phone is made of plastic, and believe you me that the dinosaurs would have been proud to die knowing that they would eventually be turned into this this fantastic Finnish masterpiece (albeit made in China, but who's counting). Solid as no other, amazing weight (on the heavy side, which was great) and the wireless charging. I don't really care for the camera, so any camera is really good for me. People have said the pictures were great. Screen was bright and unbelievably readable in sunlight. Now, the bad part. Before we get to this part, I use the phone for whatsapp, viber and skype. If these things do not perform, sadly the thing is not useful. I have never really appreciated microsoft products. They were all, well, buggy, and sadly this is not the exception. Nevertheless, I have to say the concept of the OS is brilliant, simple to use and simple in concept. The execution, however, is sadly lacking. The OS reboots itself once every 36 hours (super precise). The push notifications do not always work (I have no idea why) and, for the life of me, I could not get a clock showing two time zones to work. It is just all very sad. It's one of those things I would have love to have working properly. I am aware that these things might all be fixed with an update of two, but my window for returning the phone was closing and I did not want to risk it. Other than these small things, the phone worked great. I am sad to say I am going to miss this one. On the other side. Amazon's handling of the returns was painless and easy. Brilliant service on their part. Lastly, the stars things. I really want to use 5 stars, but I can't, It would just be misleading. The device is brilliant though.

A day or so after delivery the camera stopped working, I was unable to take stills or video. I did a battery pull soft reset and the camera started working again. Now, after entering a load of data and other details into the phone, the camera button stopped working again, and this time, soft reset does not rectify the situation. I say the camera button, because a downloaded app called 1shot allows taking a photo by tapping the screen, and this works. However, it is still not possible to take videos. there is too much personal stuff in the phone for a hard reset, and it appears other owners who experienced the same camera fault failed to rectify it by a hard reset. As a smart phone the device seems all it claims, but as the camera is a significant part of the selling point of mobile phones, the repeated camera failures is not good enough, so it only gets three stars.

I've lived with this phone for nearly a year now - and I have to say it is the best phone I've ever owned. The Lumia 820 is more compact that you'd imagine and just makes the iPhone look very clunky and heavy. Its user interface is just so much more elegant that that of any iPhone or Android as it's not just screen after screen after screen of icons. The live tiles are by far the most attractive and versatile interface once you've got used to it - and that takes little time at all. The continually applied upgrades (now Lumia Black) just improve the phone's performance rather than invoking change for change's sake (Apple take note!) and the incoming phone number/SMS blocker is one of the star features - get any unsolicited text messages from PPI or Injury Lawyers and a couple of presses turns that number off for ever! No need to panic either if your phone needs to be factory reset (yes, been there!) as virtually everything on your phone is kept safe up there in the cloud (using a Microsoft ID) and restores back with little added input - just email passwords and a re-build of your start screen are required. Text messages, last called number list they're all there after a restore. OK, there are far more apps available for the iPhone and Android, but the WP8 ones are getting better and more expansive all of the time - and that's a small price to pay for a phone that is just so good. The Lumia 820 just gives you that little feeling of being a bit different (and slightly superior!) to all those iPhone users! If you're thinking about a Windows Phone then just get one of these and you won't be disappointed! [Added March 2014] Just added a Nokia wireless charging pad to the line up, and what a superb addition! Now all I have to do is put my phone down exactly where I always did but on top of the pad and it charges - no cables to plug is in... or flat battery due to forgetfulness! It just makes a great phone even better!

To all intents and purposes, for the relatively small price tag, if you have never had a smartphone before this is a good phone. It is pretty quick, easy to use, has an excellent screen, decent enough camera, reliable wi-fi, excellent volume, decent sound quality, has expandable memory thanks to a microSD card slot (a rare thing these days) and a battery life to rival the Iphone 5S (24 hours of moderately heavy use). However! For those of us who have had smartphones before you will find the Lumia 820 a rather frustrating and backwards device. In no particular order: There is no notification light; Facebook notifications do not appear on the lockscreen; The lock button is positioned just where the hand grips the phone (unless you are left-handed) resulting in one repeatedly locking the phone midway though a message or newspaper article; The theoretically handy touchscreen button at the bottom left hand corner dedicated to bringing up the internet search engine is locked to Microsoft's Bing (to set to Google you have to set browser language to Russian); The clipboard for copy and pasting is primitive and auto clears when you close an app such as OneNote or even if the phone screen just turns off; The cursor for selecting where to type is inaccurate and extremely clumsy to use; The Internet Explorer app only lets you go back 2 pages; There is no easy way to view your own phonenumber in the contacts list; The rear case is almost impossible to remove as it is wrapped around the sides of the phone (and includes the oversensitive side buttons); No option to use your own music for ringtones or alarms; And there are close to no options for customising the aesthetics of the home screen aside from adding or removing various tiles (after shuffling the tiles around i was left with 9 blues tiles--even Whatsapp is blue--with a black background (similarly text messaging and using Whatsapp feels like typing command lines in Dos thanks also to a black dreary background)). Unsurprisingly after 2 very frustrating weeks i had to return the phone and get a refund. My advice, if you are after a smartphone in this price range, try the Moto G.

Le téléphone reste figé , obligé d'enlever la batterie pour continuer à l'utiliser , demande de remplacement effectuée . Le problème vient de Windows 8.0 , l'idéal est de le passer en version 8.1 et de migrer vers windows 10. Mais ce problème est connu chez microsoft .... et pas de solution à ce jour ....
