Very simple and easy to use.
This is great! We have FIVE toilets in our house! And they all basically needed their cistern valves replaced. That would have been a real pain without something like this to get the water out of the bottom (if only a flush emptied them completely!)For 6 quid, it's easily worth it for the hassle it saved. There are a number of these on Amazon that all LOOK identical. I picked this one because it had a better ratio of positive reviews. However, I suspect that different sellers don't always sell the exact same product even though they're listed as one item.In this case, having read a lot of the negative reviews across all the similar products, the overriding conclusion is that people don't understand syphons! They ALWAYS require the outlet to be lower than the inlet. That's just physics. If you can't get the outlet lower than the inlet, then it will stick work as a pump, and it does that fine, but it's obviously harder work. If you CAN get it lower, then you just pump it a couple of times until the liquid's reached the crucial point, and it will carry on by itself. To empty a half-cistern (having flushed it first) takes a few seconds. If you understand the point about higher to lower, you'll also then realise that the inlet is at the top of the pump, and the outlet at the bottom. It's really not that hard. The other point about a syphon is that it needs to be airtight. To achieve that, the product comes with a couple of sheaths that you have to push down over the hoses to hold them onto the pump. If you don't do that right, it's not going to be sealed and just won't work - as a pump or a syphon. If you're having to tape it up, you've probably done this bit wrong. The instructions do explain all of this, so I'm not sure why so many people struggle with it...

A wickedly useful device avoiding a mouth full of diesel fuel
A wickedly useful device avoiding a mouth full of diesel fuel. It won't last forever, but it doesn't need to. Useful for emptying header tanks in the loft and a myriad of other activities.

Ok for hot or runny oil but not thicker oil.
Ok for some applications.I purchased this to remove oil from my transmission and then to top up with Lucas stop slip. Extracting the very warm and so quite fluid transmission oil from the gear box it was excellent, easy to use and worked like a dream.Filling up the transmission with the stop slip was another matter. Even though I had had the oil sitting in on top of our immersion cylinder for a couple of day and on top of a house hot radiator for three hours so it was as warm as I could get it without melting the plastic container, it was still to thick for the AM-Tech deluxe siphon pump. The out going tube when put under any pressure pops out and because pressure is there once it does a quantity of oil spills, squirts out. I even tried cutting both ends to their shortest but the pump struggled to gain enough pressure to suck the oil from is container and when it manages to it will not easily deliver to the transmission because the other end keeps coming out and after it happens the first time and it is covered in oil I imagine water would be difficult to pass through it. In the end I unended the bottle into the sucking side and wedged it upside down between the transmission and exhaust, this was I had enough hands to pump and physically hold the deliver side tube in the pump.

Great little syphon
Purchased this item to bleed the diesel supply to the stove on our narrowboat. It comes with a selection of different size fittings and if you open it carefully it can be stored back in it's original packaging. Clear instructions are included. I found it easy to use and very quick to bleed the liqiud from our tank along a 3 metre pipe to the heating stove. It only took a few pumps and clear diesel soon appeared without air bubbles. For the money I think it's great value and better than trying to suck liquid through (and getting it in your mouth !! ). I tried a manual "bulb" type first which was on the end of the supply line but that was useless so attached this instead. It can be used for many types of liquid but ensure you oil the plunger after use as per the instructions. I recommend this product.

Worked Like a Charm.
I got this to get the petrol out of my bike tank, this used to be a messy business because of the curvature of the tank and the balance pipe between the two halves, there would always be a couple of pint left in even after draining it from reserve.I assembled the pipes and pump and marked the siphon pipe for length to the bottom of the tank, this way it wouldn't snake around inside.Pumped the plunger as per instruction on the packet and it worked like a charm with just dregs from the balance pipe remaining, perfect!!

Efficient little pump for air or liquids.
I bought this to siphon diesel from my tank which I had foolishly filled to the brim just a couple of days before selling the car.Unfortunately modern cars are equipped with anti-siphoning security in the filler pipe making it impossible to get to the fuel, so I had to wave bye-bye to my car with over three quarters of the tank still full. However its not a total waste of money it can still be used to siphon water from tanks, oil from sumps, in fact anywhere where you want to move liquid from one place to another, it also doubles as a pump for airbeds, bike tyres that sort of thing. its well made and comes with all the bits you need for either siphoning or pumping, its quite small (about nine inches) so can easily be stored ready for action.
