How much does this weigh please? I would like to use it in a fermentation pot, if it's heavy enough. Thank you

I can't weigh mine, as I dropped it last week and broke it. Haven't yet ordered another. However, it must have been heavier than a metal one I got, which weighs 35 g but isn't heavy enough to rattle loud enough to be heard unless you're right near it. Perhaps the sellers could tell you. If the weight is critical, it might be worth finding out how much the Pyrex version weighs. It's more expensive but might be heavier: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pyrex-450B0005040-Classic-Milk-Watcher/dp/B000UO7GHQ

Is this food grade glass. ie. no hidden nasties lead etc.

Maybe I am too trusting but there are laws these days about "adulteration" of products used for food, e.g. saucepans

Can I use this product in a microwave?

Why not? It’s glass and you microwave things in glass bowls ... so no problem...

can this be used to stand a pudding basin on when steaming a pudding

No, it is meant to alert you that a liquid starts to boil by rattling. It is not flat enough to put a pudding bowl over it steadily.
