Not the same as rice but a perfect alternative
Bit of background info... I usually spend about 2 months a year 'cuttting'. I've always had success from cutting carbs but I find this very difficult as I'm not a big fan of vegetables. I came ac cross this in the supermarket along with the noodle version and gave this a try. First off the smell... It is really disgusting. Almost a plasticy fishy smell. It really hits you when you open the pack and I can see that some may not be able to get past this. Whilst you can wash off the worst of the smell it does remain a little - I usually wash a portion of the rice in the morning to take to work and when I get to work and open the container I can smell it. The rice has no taste at all and absorbs the flavour of whatever you mix it with well. I have also made egg fried 'rice' with it which comes out well. The texture is a little more rubbery than ordinary rice but not noticeably so. As I mentioned before I've tried the noodles but find the texture of these too chewy. My wife tried the rice but really didn't like it. She said she didn't like the texture and that it made her stomach feel strange. Not sure if this was psychosomatic although I've seen reports of others finding the same so maybe the ingredients in it don;t agree with everyone's digestion?! Overall I'm really happy I've found this product and will keep using it when cutting. Pros: -Low amount of calories -Easy to prepare -Similar texture to normal rice -No taste -Takes on the flavour of other ingredients Cons -Initial smell is bad -May not agree with everyone's digestive system.

Great Substitute
Great rice substitute, wash it well under running water. Tastes fine when covered with a sauce and makes egg fried rice very well, tastes fine when mixed, I couldn’t eat it on its own though without sauce or flavourings. Would recommend if you can’t have rice, good for diabetics.

Disgusting
These are inedible. Konnac noodles aren’t always the nicest but these are the worst I’ve had. They absolutely stink like rotten veg and pee. I couldn’t eat more than a bite. Never again.

Rinse thoroughly before use. The smell is bad! Taste is good!
When opening the acrid smell is quite intense so don’t be put off. I put them into a sieve and thoroughly rinse through under very hot water for a few minutes until the liquid the rice comes in has gone. I microwave for two minutes and drain again before adding butter and salt. Only after I get rid of the smell can I even think about using it. But gosh one you start prepping your keto dish it’s really amazing. Egg and smoked salmon fried rice or with keto friendly chilli con carne. This rice (not to keen on the noodles) in my opinion when rinsed properly is almost identical to normal rice. My son and daughter in law totally agree. There’s no actual flavour but then neither has normal rice but once you start experimenting it really is fantastic. A keto eaters dream. If you’re an imaginative chef you will love experimenting with flavours to use with this product. Don’t be put of by the stench, it’s just the water it travels in and nothing to do with the finished taste

Low carb alternative and easy to prepare
Konjac is fabulous for helping to reduce your carb intake. You often have to rinse it quite a lot to get rid of the preservative liquid smell, but this rice barely needs any rinsing at all unlike some other noodle type konjac products I've used. Very tasty and takes no cooking, just to heat it up or you can eat cold after rinsing

Too rubbery for sub as 'rice'
As a low carb eater I gave up pasta and rice which were my two favoraite staples. After a while, you learn to live without them and of course, doing low carb right, you no longer crave them. Yet some foods just work best with pasta or rice, like many Indian, Italian, Thai, Chinese or Mexican dishes. I am a total convert to the noodles. It's been so long since I had pasta that I cant fully recall their texture, but I do know it's not like the noodles. But I think of them as Asian noodles rather than pasta, although I use them in all sorts of dishes. So great to have that sort of food alongside sauces especially. I tell you this so that you know I'm open to 'odd' textures and do enjoy their other product. However, the rice doesn't fully work for me. It's fine, it's a welcome difference to my meals, but it's just too rubbery as 'rice'. I also found I had to rinse the rice due to a bit of a smell, whereas the noodles are scentless (maybe they changed their recipe on those because old reviews mention a stink). A small inconvenience if it was a great rice alternative but it isn't for me. I'll keep it in the pantry for the very occassional meal (like curries)

Get past the smell and it's good!
Once you get past the rather startling smell of fish (which virtually disappears after thorough rinsing), this is a great substitute for the real thing. It has no discernible taste of its own and is perfect for curries. It's also very quick and easy to prepare if and makes a nice change from cauli-rice and a very welcome addition if you are on a keto/low-carb diet. I haven't used it in a stir-fry but I imagine it would be fine as it has a slightly chewy texture. This case of six is a very good price as an individual pack is half the price of the one I bought in my local health food shop as a trial taster.
