nice bit of kit
great bit of kit, not something you will use all the time but handy to have, can also get an adapter for these to take grinding disks, for that time a normal grinder wont fit in a space

Great powerful tool for wood carvings
Great powerful tool wish there was a speed control button it also wish it was a little less bulky as Iโm a woman and find a real job to fit my hand around it. Think it was designed for larger hands!

There is no speed control button, it turns on immediately at high speeds.

So convenient
I have quite a few Makita cordless tools. I suddenly thought a cordless die grinder would be handy because Ive been doing window repairs. Itโs dead handy not having to trail a lead around with you. The machine itโs self is great, if you really push it it will hesitate and you back off apart from that you canโt fault it. I donโt regret purchasing this.

Initial findings
As a keen Makita buyer I must say im disapointed in this product. I want to use this for derusting car body work. The first time I switched this on the vibration was so bad the brush caps fell out. I went back to the instructions and discovered the max size wheel is only 36mm, clearly my mistake as I fitted a 75mm thin wire brush. There is not much tooling available between 25mm and 36mm, the next size is 40mm which is too big. The next problem is that all my tooling had 1/4" arbors. The supplied collet is 6mm, there are collets available from 1/8"-1/4" and 3mm-8mm but availability is scarce and at ยฃ28 each is expensive. I might just go back to using a Dremel. Come on Makita, include a 1/4" collet at the least and really make sure the max dia is clearly documented, might save people burning machines out.

Makita DGD800Z

The best deal and a premium quality tool
I bought this die grinder to use for a more complicated welding / fabrication job I'm tackling where a regular angle grinder won't fit. I'm using it mainly with a carbide burr and it just eats steel away. Grinding stones work well too of course. I was originally looking at corded electric die grinders but this was actually the least expensive electric die grinder I could find anywhere, and it just happens to be my preferred brand of tool. All my other cordless tools are Makita so it's nice that I can just use the batteries I already have. I've been using compact 1.5 Ah batteries with it without issue. Bigger batteries might be better suited but for my use they're fine. Quality seems excellent as you'd expect from Makita. I'm surprised at how light and well balanced it is. Overall a premium tool.
