Brilliant! - totally solved my fuzzy picture problem...
A brilliant little device, highly recommended. I'm using it to pipe our recorded freeview programs and DVDs from the family room to the adjoining kitchen/dining room. I bought this to replace an old VH89 "digital video sender" from Maplin that had been great for years but developed a "fuzzy picture" problem around the time the analog signal was switched off in our area earlier this year. When the scart only was connected, the output picture was clean. But when the freeview lead was also plugged in, the picture became very grainy. I'm not a techie but my guess is the freeview signal got boosted when the analog was switched off and the old modulator couldn't handle it. It wasn't a faulty device as I had two and they both did it. This new Mercury modulator shows a clean picture in all cases so I'm really pleased with it. This new modulator also has a very easy up/down button and LED display to choose the channel number, unlike the arcane dip switches on the other modulator. This new one also has a pass-thru scart output which might prove useful. All in all, very pleased with this and it certainly solved the problem I was having with a grainy picture in the kitchen.

It really works!!
Having recently switched from Sky HD to Virgin Media V+ I was frustrated to note that the new Samsung V+ V.M. box did not have the same RF out capability that the Sky HD box had, and as a result my home distribution network was out of action.. Crisis...No Tv upstairs!! After a little research, I found forum references to this little gem although with very mixed reviews. Some said it worked, others that it did not so taking a leap of faith I ordered one to give it a go and I can confirm to anyone in doubt; If you are installing this to take a scart feed from the Samsung V+ box and convert to an RF feed for a coax network, it not only works, but it works very well. The picture quality via my network is excellent, considering the signal is now being distributed via coax and not HDMI leads. There is no distortion or loss of signal (some of my tv's are a good distance from the distribution box). I think a reason that some have reported poor quality is that they have not set up their V+ box to output the right signal type through the scart. In the V+ box settings the output needs to be set to composite and not RGB. Some forums advise the use of an old VCR player which also works but who wants an old VCR stuffed down the back of the TV. This unit is only a little bigger than a pack of cards. Overall a top quality and cost effective solution to an annoying oversight on the part of Samsung in building the latest V+ box.

Good product, works well
Like a lot of people I bought this as I have gone from Sky to Virgin Media so needed a replacement magic eye type solution although in theory you should be able to use it for anything. I wasn't too impressed at first as the picture I was getting although watchable was quite fuzzy. I had always had a decent picture on the 2nd tv from the sky box RF out. Most reviewers on here have quoted very good picture quality It occurred to me I may have been using the wrong coax socket on the modulator. I was. I had my connection to the 2nd tv into the aerial socket rather than the tv/vcr one probably as I had removed the adapter plug off the end of the cable so had just put the cable into wherever it would fit. There's probably a valuable life lesson there. I now have a near perfect picture given the kitchen tv is a 10 year old budget lcd model. I think from memory the picture is better than I was getting from the sky RF out. It is easy to tune in even if you don't have it connected correctly. As the TV is pre digital it doesn't seem to matter what channel I have the modulator set to. It does get a bit warm so I switch it off when not in use. I have combined it with the Marmitek remote control pyramids as have many others. At times our magic eye sunning off the sky box would refuse to operate the remote. If I had been aware of these products I might have replaced that set up with these two products. All in all not a bad piece of kit, does what you want it to do,. which is all you can ask. Maybe not totally idiot proof but that's no fault of the equipment. If you aren't getting the desired results wade through the reviews on here and persevere with it

What a great gadget...!
So i'm thinking - how can I watch my new Sky Sports in my bedroom, when it's installed in my living room? As I was searching for Scart cables and contemplating drilling through walls (again) Amazon showed this related gadget in some search results - I wouldn't have known this was possible if Amazon hadn't shown me - so thumbs up for the Amazon shopping engine..! And not only can it pipe the signal from you scart source (STB, DVD Player etc...) , it can also carry the normal Antenna freewiew signal - so you don't have to switch from one source to another - it does everything. 1) plug in all the cables 2) make sure your sending a scart signal so the bedroom TV can latch on to it - i.e. play a film... 3) do an auto tune / factory reset of your bedroom TV 4) Bingo! your Scart signal will be available on an ANALOGUE channel (default is 36) - and you also have all the usual digital TV channels The whole thing takes 10 minutes (and that's mainly the tv autotune)- my LG tv is about 3 years old. Now I can get freeview and sky sports at the touch of a button. As for quality of signal - my eyes aren't 20/20 but I can't really tell the difference I've also ordered a remote control sender kit so I can change channels from Bedroom too... Well, well, well impressed - great piece of kit. Hope this helps Col

Eva Wolf
