is this suitable for aged horse

It depends on the condition of the horses teeth and how well it maintains weight. Meadow hay would be suitable for a horse with good teeth, however this would be a VERY expensive way to source hay - you'd be better off fining a local supplier who can deliver round or square bales. If the horse has poor teeth and/or trouble maintaining weight, switch to a hay replacer. I use Spillers Veteran Supermash and it's helped to add condition to my 30 year old TB who only has half his teeth.
