My wife had two desk lamps that lost their mounts. This item worked perfectly for getting them mounted properly. We were lucky that the 1/2" hole was exactly what our lamp needed. If it were any smaller, the lamp wouldn't have fit.

We needed replacement holders for our jewelers lamps. The original ones wore out. These work fine but sometimes they start slipping of the table edge where we installed them. We move our lamps around a lot to reach different working areas. This type of tightening bar to tighten the clamp onto the desk cannot be tightened tight enough with bare hands to prevent it eventually slipping off the edge of a desk. We had to use a tool to tighten it down so it would no longer slip. Once it is on the edge of the desk securely this item works fine. We like that is has a hand friendly tightening screw to hold the post in the clamp more securely. It would be nice if the manufacturer would improve this item by installing a slip resistant rubber lining on the clamp parts that make contact with the desk top and bottom.

Just what I needed!

The surface area of the clamp is too small. Since pressure is force per unit area, and the clamp surfaces provide a relatively small surface area, the resulting pressure is excessive for a larger lamp with a larger mass and a longer lever arm.

It fit one of my lamps, but not my magnifying lamp because the hole was too small. Check your land before you order.
