Nancy Drew Meets Jane Goodall
This charming MG is about a young naturalist who learned from her grandmother how to take care of injured wildlife. She idolizes Jane Goodall, and is all set to meet her when her summer is turned upside-down when she rescues two orphaned beaver kits.First she has to keep them secret, then she has to figure out how to care for them. And at the same time she’s helping her friends Jack and Aaron try to solve the mystery of who shot the beavers’ parents. Throughout it all, she’s warm-hearted, smart, and determined, and you can’t help but root for her. It’s the perfect gift for kids interested in wildlife rehabilitation, beavers, or simply anyone who enjoys a good story. There’s also a hint there might be a sequel, and I definitely hope for more adventures with Madi and her mystery-solving friends.

The story starts by introducing the reader to 12 year old Madi – a brave girl who always tries to do the right thing, concerning the local wildlife.Madi’s grandmother was the town’s main wildlife rehabber, but sadly she has passed away. A nonstop animal adventure
When you meet Madi, “the animal whisperer”, on the first page you’ll know you’re in for a nonstop animal adventure. You’ll quickly imagine yourself alongside Madi as she dives into the murky, cold lake in her quest to find the entrance to the beaver dam. She’s striving to save the beaver kits who are alone and stranded after their parents were shot by poachers. You’ll feel the branches scrape along your skin as you struggle to make it through the opening. You’ll feel the panic as you wonder if you’ll be able to find that air pocket you’ve read about in your extensive research of beavers and perhaps will drown instead. You’ll feel the joy when your head pops up out of the water and you suddenly feel two furry creatures. This is just the beginning of Madi’s summer mission to teach the kits the skills needed to survive in the wild. She has lots of help from her two buddies, her late grandma’s nature books and lots of inspiration from her hero, Jane Goodall. This is a perfect choice for an animal lover, a developing MG reader due to shorter chapters, shorter length and a colorful, appealing book jacket, kids who like humor and adventure and a family or classroom read aloud. It will open up discussions about wildlife rehabilitation and poaching and will inspire research about beavers, wildlife rehabilitation and rescue and Jane Goodall.Thank you to @blue_slip_media and the author for the review copy of this book.

Succinct adventure story for all animal lovers!
A perfect story for readers of all ages, but especially kids. The story jumps right into the action with Maddi risking her life to break into a beaver lodge and rescue the kits she is sure are stuck inside when she and her two friends, Aaron and Jack, find the parents shot. And from there the action never lets up. Along the way we learn that Maddi is determined to follow in her late grandma's footsteps and be a wildlife rehabilitator and Jack wants to be a game warden. With his trusty dog, Lid, the trio sets out to save the kits secretly while also trying to solve the mystery of who is killing the beavers. A great story for anyone who loves animals, engineering challenges, or mysteries. The story moves quickly with engaging chapter endings. At 180 pages with really reader-friendly font and spacing, the size will not turn away less confident readers. And I don't specifically remember how old Maddi and her friends are, but they are independent enough to be running around in an ATV and solving mysteries, so the characters will appeal to older students as well. This is a must have for all classroom and school libraries. #LitReviewCrew

Wonderful, exciting and at times, laugh-out-loud funny!
Five stars! I bought this book after hearing the author speak (online), and I absolutely loved it! Just ask my family. While reading, I could frequently be heard exclaiming, “This is so great!”RESCUE AT LAKE WILD is a fun middle-grade book. It’s chockfull of mystery, surprise, and suspense. It’s also funny - the antics of Lid, the dog, had me snorting! I won’t recount the plot for you; that info is readily available online.Don’t be shy about buying this book for your middle-grade boy. The protagonist (Madi) is a twelve-year-old girl, but this isn’t a ‘girls’ book.’ Madi’s sidekicks and best friends are two boys (Aaron and Jack) who are fantastic in their own right and play wonderful and important roles in the story. The book is touted as being perfect for animal lovers and eco-friendly readers. While that’s true – I did learn a ton about beavers –it’s also so much fun to read that I suggest that RESCUE AT LAKE WILD has wide-ranging appeal. It’s perfect for anyone!
