This is a keeper
Very cute story featuring a money tree and ... well, how to put this delicately?... the natural fertilizing properties of animal waste. It's a very funny book -- all the farm animals are named after famous Presidents and national heroes. I'm a read-aloud Mom with a family of boys, and I am glad I found this book. The kids request it OFTEN.Educational benefit -- teaches the relative value of coins, lets your child practice multiplying money, helps teach about the relative sizes of farm animals. Packed with humor, which helps the educational material go down smoother.Ultimate message of contentment.Very nice that the Yuan pictured in the book isn't the side with the portrait of Chairman Mao. (Although that Three Gorges Dam is a human rights violation and an enormous scandal in its own right.)

Math Literacy
This is a great book to add to a Math Unit! It is nice to be able to add Literacy to Math atleast once a week, and this book is perfect! The students learn the amount of money! Such a great tool!

Wonderfully rich text
I had never read this book before purchasing it to supplement a lesson on coins. My 1st graders loved this story. It is full of so much great stuff that we read it multiple times to deepen our understanding. You can use this book to teach about coins, counting money, compost and fertilizers affects on plants, and money from other countries. This book was a great starting point for my students to ask intriguing questions and practice counting more complex amounts of coins. We stopped half way through the book for my 1st graders to figure out how much money 100 nickels would be. Great thinking for them! Teachers will appreciate the richness of this text. You will get so much out of it!

Disappointed.
I was disappointed with this book. It is verbose / long winded and doesn’t take advantage of opportunities to tie math concepts together. In addition the author’s attempt at humor, naming farm animals after prominent historic Americans went over my children’s heads.Perhaps I’m used to Amy Axelrod’s Pigs / Fun with Math series. She always breaks down the math used in the story.

I bought 8 excellent items about which I have no complaints at all, except that they were shipped individually. What a waste of shipping materials and 45$ worth of shipping expense.
