You need a charger to charge the batteries this is not a backup battery it's a charging case only and it does not come with charger only case

if the fully charged batteries are kept inside, will they discharge over time or do they hold charge for a while good?

If the fully charged battery is placed inside, it will stop charging, and the battery will slowly discharge. When the discharge reaches a certain level, the charger detects and continues to charge the battery until it is fully charged and stops, and then the battery will slowly discharge again. This is a process that is repeated. The fully charged battery is placed inside and discharge slowly, and it may discharge less than 2% in ten days, of course, this is all when the power is plugged in.
