PLE is Polymorphic Light Eruption which is also known as Prickly Heat. It is caused by a reaction to the suns rays.

Does it rub completely into the skin invisibly or does it leave annoying white residue on skin?

I dont think it does. It has been used for years to treat sun sensitivity caused by major tranquilisers. Dont remember anyone having white faces. So no it doesnt.

Is it tested on animals

Sorry cannot answer that. It may have been. It was one of the earliest sun screens being used for medication induced sun sensitivity in the 60's.
