Does the bottom portion come off?

No, the bottom portion does not come off.

The cap squeeks loudly every time i open it and is a problem when i'm at events that require quiet. any solution to this? my larger swell works fine.

I have not had this problem, but knowing seals, I would suggest making sure you have wet the inside of the cap when filling the bottle. I also would gently tip bottle before opening to wet the side of seal inside bottle. Makes me think of “priming the pump” (wet the seal). Just a suggestion to try.
