The Book Of Symbols: Reflections on Archetypal Images

I had this on my wish list for quite some time before indulging and I am very glad I did. If you are interested in symbols the content is extensive and vey informative a great reference book however, the quality of the cover, paper, and imagery really set this book apart. A very beautiful book to be cherished and possibly left on the coffee table for others to admire.

This book is amazing. I bought for husband who has not put it down. It’s very well written and is so insightful. The book itself is beautiful and has sections carved into the pages to form tabs for quick access to the categories. It also has stunning hanging ribbon page markers for each section all different colours. The pages are filled with beautiful pictures to accompany and support the text and also has many analysis of art relating to the symbols too. The spine is strong and the book is clearly made so well. The cover has a slight Deboss and makes a nice texture. I don’t know how this book is at this price. If this is something that interests you It’s a steal.

Really helpful and comprehensive

Wow, what an amazing book. The publishers succeed fully in collecting archetypal images, some ancient and some surprisingly modern, and guiding the reader on to further research through reference, poetry and art. Some reviewers have criticized the small pictures and "insufficient" writing, but if the publishers had given us all the detail available the book would be so heavy you would have needed a trolley to carry it around and weight-lifter's arms just to open it. Plus which this is a book about symbols, which resonate on an unconscious level, so excess writing is not necessary. A book to keep on your bedside table and randomly flick through before sleep, or to read from page one to the end. Can't recommend highly enough.

Absolutely fantastic book, my partner loves, super sturdy and easy to read, worth the price

This is a book obviously created with great care. Very nice essays, useful for the understanding of the perception of the world and its images through time. It is very inclusive, you will find images such as the umbrella or the car, which takes it further than tradition. But beware! This is NOT a book where you will read about the meaning of ouroboros, or the ankh, or the celtic cross, etc., etc. The word archetypal in the subtitle is of great importance. If this is what you're looking for, than I would suggest: The Illustrated Signs and Symbols Sourcebook

The Book of Symbols: Reflections on Archetypal Images, is both well written and creatively illustrated. As a book it stands out from the crowd, especially these days, in its overall appearance with different coloured attractive book mark threads, much like the old religious books. It makes a handsome gift and adds grace and charm to any library.

This is one of my most beautiful books! Full of detail, gorgeously written with lovely, high quality images. Just stunning!

Jung didn't like the idea of books interpreting symbols, but this is much more than that. A valuable reference for anyone working with dreams, art, myths ....

Author made an effort to put vibrant description under every symbol I ve read there. It's clearly written by some artistic soul, so if you look for any inspiration for your work, it's the right piece of paper.

IMÁGENES: Coincido con algún otro lector en que la (restringida, por la amplitud del tema en cuestión) selección de imágenes son lo más interesante de este libro. TEMAS: La elección de los temas tratados resulta correcta, para mi criterio quedan algunos fuera y otros podían haber sido prescindibles, pero en un trabajo que intenta abarcar algo tan amplio es lógico encontrar algunas discrepancias. Al menos, se han agrupado de forma lógica y ordenada, lo que resulta de agradecer. TEXTOS: Los textos son algo pobres, más propios de un escritor que de un investigador; y parece que la elección del editor sobre el tamaño tan mínimo de letra empleada se ha hecho a propósito para desanimar su lectura (ciertamente hay que forzar bastante la vista para poder leer los textos, algo impropio de una edición cuidada como pretende ser ésta). CONCLUSIÓN: Una obra de interés eminentemente gráfico y cuidadas ilustraciones, con vocación generalista, que intenta agradar a todos pero que carece de profundidad.
