Angle of angle guide?

Hi and good afternoon Chloe, All depends on what you are sharpening and there is no definitive answer because there are so many different variables. However as a general guide knives should be approx 20 degrees with a plus / minus of 5 degrees either way. Chisels / Plane blades etc should be around 25 degrees again this can vary depending on the manufacturer. The thing is that you can feel whatever blade you offer up to the stone and so it is easier to go with that. You can also tell by the noise it makes. My advice would be to practice on something basic and not important until you get the feel and confidence to let loose on your finest hardware. Hope this helps regards John D.
