Brutal action from the get go.
The last of humanity is left hidden behind walls while the titans that destroyed all hope along with countless lives have the world to themselves. Except for the survey Corp the only people brave enough to to step beyond the walls and try and take the lost land back. In this desperate world humanity isn't as united as it would first appear different factions are battling for control. The story follows Eren and his desire not only to be free but to find out the truth behind the titans. This series is action for the get go with breathtaking battle sequences at lightning speeds. Each episode brings further depth to the story and the world in which it takes place. The art work is simply stunning and each character and item had been drawn with thought and emotion all adding the immersive experience.Add to that the excellent sound quality and it makes for one of the best current anime ' s around. It's not for the faint hearted and certainly doesn't pull it's punches. If you're looking for something fast paced but with a depth l story and characterisation that some anime lack this is a must.

This was a 'used' purchase. Collectors Edition.
The item arrived just a day before there was a huge price hike on this item. The item was a 'used' Collectors Edition, the item arrived with tape over the cover and blu-ray cases - holding them from moving. I had to slit the tape and carefully remove the tape and clean the residue with alcohol from slipcase and blu-ray cases. Fortunately after an hour the item was in mint condition and my copy also included part 2 and part one Collectors Edition with the booklet for each. The price paid was approximately £16, and the following day the combined items were being sold for £65 or more. The discs were in mint condition - a excellent purchase.

A mecha anime by any other name
Eren, Armin and Misaka are three young children living in a city made up of three concentric walls. Beyond the walls dwell the titans, monstrous, rictus grinned creatures intent on devouring human flesh. One day a titan, bigger than any seen before arrives at the outermost wall. In true anime style the boastful but lazy and ineffective town guards stand little chance. When Eren witnesses a tragedy he vows to join the military and kill the titans. Eren initially is the typical anime pre-teen. load mouth, disrespectful and childish. Basically to a degree he remains that way as there is almost no character development. The characters often act in ways that defy logic and sense. It touches on elements of free will and violent tendencies brought on by witnessing violence. There's action aplenty but because of how underwritten the characters are when the worst happens to them you don't really care. It's pretty much a mecha anime, Eren is the only one capable of unleashing Hell on the titans. The series has great potential, but somehow doesn't live up to it.

Great show, great extra content.
This is going to be a review of the case and extra content because I assume that, if you are thinking about buying this show, you've already seen it and have decided you liked it enough to purchase the physical copy.Part One collectors edition consists of the first 13 episodes of the show, commentary tracks for episodes 3 and 13, a bonus disc containing a decent amount of extra content, a leaflet called "Notes from beyond the Wall: Part 1" which I can only describe as a mini art book and an outer box that fits part one and has room for part two.So you get a good amount of content for you're money. My only criticism are that the outer box and leaflet seem quite cheaply made. The outer box is just thin cardboard and the leaflet is thin paper. All in all this is a must buy for any fan of the show.

Japanime publishing done right
This region B UK edition comes bundled with two lossless audio tracks: a japanese LPCM 2.0 (same as japanese edition) and an english DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. The video has plenty of room to shine, with a rock solid 25-35Mbit/s AVC encode. The only flaw is the edited opening & ending (though they made it properly). The packaging and blu ray print are very nice. A state-of-the-art edition, recommended in order to enjoy this entertaining and addictive anime!
