It depends on the length. I had a metre high screening, and I had metal support stakes a metre apart which was fine.

looking for hedge that is 60 inches by 60 inches. What is this in metres?

If you have the inches measurement, just Google "Convert Imperial to metric" or "convert inches to centimetres" and it will do it for you. I no longer have my fence screening, and mine was only about a metre high.

Is it possible to get a sample of this so that I can whether it is dense enough for the screening use that I want to use it for?

I doubt you can get a sample. The different makes do vary as to the thickness and quality, but as I no longer have any, I can't say which would be best for you. As a general rule, you get what you pay for.
