Q: What makes this cable any better than those advertised at a third of the price because it's clearly (pun intended) not glass??

The cable is not glass but what makes it better is the light pipe inside is better quality and quality of the light signal is maintained. Cheaper products will use really cheap light pipes and I came from and £6 optical cable and you really notice the difference sound wise.

There are many types available for all budgets; however, the AudioQuest Forest is well made and highly recommended for its price. It's a tough cable as well.
