RØDE VideoMic Me-L Compact Directional Smartphone Microphone for iPhone® or iPad® with Lightning connector for Mobile Filmmaking and Content Creation

This is a great microphone that is solidly built, records at a high quality level, and is simple to use. You just plug it in and record. That's it. And it works great. Somehow competitors have missed this and I've tried more than a dozen other microphones that suck sound-wise, are cheaply built and break easily, and require additional apps or programs to record. Not this one. You pull it out the box, plug into your phone, and record. Such a simple concept. It's like someone finally had common sense and decided to design a high-quality, fairly-priced product, that works wonderfully. THIS SHOULD BE THE STANDARD! Please consider this microphone first before others, it will save you money, time, and headaches.

I saw some pretty good YouTube reviews for this mic. NOT the case at all. Every time I attempted to make a recording, the playback was static and crackling over the video. Super disappointed. The microphone plug in does not fit over an iphone case, and you have to keep taking the mic off to playback to make sure the sound it working. Nightmare product.

As with every Rode product I've purchsed, this was an excellently made piece of equipment that fully lived up to my expectations. I needed a "shotgun" mic that could plug into my iPhone for shooting travel videos where I couldn't wear a wireless lavalier and this was an outstanding choice. There was no way of knowing at the time that Apple was getting rid of their Lightning plug in favor of USB-C with the next generation of iPhone, so now this can only be used on my old phone. But hey...live and learn!

after a week of frustration I finally figured out how to operate this mic. The video sound was great, sadly I upgraded my phone a week later and now have no use for it.

Let me start by saying I love Rhode products. I use their Pod Mic daily. However, this mic’s audio quality was less than stellar. It does block out some of the background noise as it’s a directional mic but the audio quality is not Rhode quality.

Has worked well! At first there would be very invasive static noise about 15 seconds into any recording, but it was fixed by updating firmware on the device via the official Rode app. Expect to do this update before it starts working properly.

I am so disappointed with this mic! I have used many RODE products in the past without any issues. Here are the issues I am having with this mic: 1. I have to remove my iPhone case to be able to use it, because it doesn’t fit otherwise. 2. Constant crackling/static noises with and without the deadcat (wind guard). 3. I downloaded the RODE app because I saw other reviewers saying you will have to download a software upgrade for this particular mic to get the crackling noises to go away. The app does not recognize this mic whatsoever, so I cannot fix the issue. 4. The instruction manual just says “read and understand the instructions and safety guide completely before using the product,” however there are NO helpful instructions. Did they forget to provide an actual manual? I am so confused. The only other thing in my box was a silica packet and a sticker. They definitely underdelivered with this product. I have other equipment from this brand, and this mic just seems out of character for the brand’s quality. I never leave one star reviews, but I feel like I just paid a lot of money to have the sound quality be worse than my bare iPhone! I hope this helps someone else out there in case they are considering purchasing this product.

I purchased this RODE VideoMic Me-L to use for recording live music performance videos on my iPhone. (The built in mic works fine in most situations, but is very omni-directional and picks up too much ambient/crowd noise.) I used it once on my iPhone 7 to record a live event and it worked/sounded fine. Before the next event I ended up updating the phone's iOS to 15.8.1 and the audio recorded with the video slowly developed a severe crackling/distortion/ring-mod type artifact which became so bad the audio was totally unusable. After doing some research I followed the advice to download the RodeReporter app onto the phone and update the microphone firmware. (2.2.1) I just recorded another live music event yesterday and came back to review the footage, and while the distortion/crackling issue didn't run through the entire recording, it would come and go intermittently every couple of minutes, again making the audio portion of the recordings unusable. I have a support ticket in with RODE and am hoping there is a way to get it to work with my particular phone and iOS as I have now had the mic for over a month and cannot return it for a refund through Amazon.

Me parece un mic de excelente calidad solo que si lo considero un poco caro para la calidad que ofrece... me gustaría probar micrófonos más económicos para ver si realmente hace tanta diferencia porque el precio si me pareció algo elevado, aunque reconozco la calidad de los micrófonos Røde las pruebas de grabación que hice con este no salieron taaan bien como me las imaginaba. La direccionalidad y el efecto que surte por ella es impecable, ¡eso sí!

Not worth it at all despite being such a brand! Returning it!
