THE MOST HONEST REVIEW. I bought, studied from it and PASSED
I just completed my pharmacy technician class and purchased this book and studied for the exam. This book was a very condensed version of the class and gives you everything you need to pass the exam, I took the PTCB today and I passed studying from this book. I now that there are unsavory reviews for this item as well as five star reviews that always seem to end "got this item at a discounted price for a honest review" well this is a HONEST REVIEW AND I DID NOT get a discount. This guide will help you pass if you put the time in. All the one star reviews as total bull s**t those people did not invest the time and they bombed the exam. Follow the study plans provided in the book and put in the time. One thing I liked about the study guide is that every section has a test at the end so you can find your weaknesses. Second thing I like about this guide is that you get two full length exams one is a diagnostic exam with actual questions you would get on the ptcb and the second at the the end with different questions. Each section gives very clear examples and it is very easy to read.Read this book countless times do the work and you will pass

Well-rounded, very helpful
If you work retail pharmacy and have had no experience in a hospital setting, then this one's for you. In the very least it will alert you to the skills and info tested on the exam that you are lacking. I took the exam in March (2015) and passed. If not for this book, I would have been screwed. With that being said, I must add that in my opinion those without retail experience are conversely at a bigger disadvantage. So good luck to all, and don't stress - you'll do fine with a bit of review

I still passed with 2 days of studying but I would highly recommend people use outside sources in addition to this book ...
This book is written very clearly and in a language that anyone can understand. However, since the writing is a bit too general, during my PTCB test, I could not answer a lot of questions as they were not covered in this book. I had a lot of hospital questions that this book failed to help with and left me guessing for most parts of the exam. I studied off a lot of practice test I found online which greatly helped me reinforce materials this book did not cover. I also wished this book at least had the top 200 drugs instead of top 100 as most of my drug questions were not found on this book. I still passed with 2 days of studying but I would highly recommend people use outside sources in addition to this book to pass the test. The book is very basic but does give you good information.

really good book, the only book you need to pass ...
really good book, the only book you need to pass this exam. i didn't use anything else. if you read all the book, memorize all the highlighted boxes ( and i mean all the drug names and formulas), and do all the questions you will pass. oh and the practice exam at the end of this book and in the beginning of the book, the exact format as that of the exam. i would not pay extra fee to take the ptcb practice test. if you want there is an extra practice exam that the book offers online as an extra bonus. do that instead. i would say 2 weeks is doable, but 3-4 more practical for someone who works. read the book twice, did all the practice quesions. read the practice exam (i ran out of time and didn't get a chance to take it while timing myself). really happy i looked at it, since the exam had practically 4-5 exact same questions as this book.

Studied this bad boy 3 weeks and took the test.
Alright so here's the deal, I took the pharm tech exam today and here's all I have to say about this book.First of all, it is very easy to read and definitely covers many subjects and sometimes it is very redundant on certain subjects which is good, because it's a big hint on what will be in the test. For example, it mentions what the NDC number is at least 4 times during a chapter alone, and sure enough I saw an NDC question on the test. However, it fails to go in depth about the subjects leaving out many subjects that'll have you guessing during the test. In all honesty, the test had 90 question, with 20-30 I knew for certain because the book covered it, about 20 being common sense, and the rest I absolutely had no idea what they were talking about. For example, a question asked what is an A1C test administered for? I had NEVER heard of such a thing, so it was just a plain guess. Another question was how full should a hazmat container be before emptying? And gives you the answer choice of 4 percentages. Since the book fails to cover these along with many other subjects, the lack of all this vital information will leave you guessing. If I had to do it again, I'd probably combine this book with another one for better results. The test is challenging, I took both practice tests from this book ad on average missed only about 6-7 questions. I definitely missed A LOT more during the test. The practice questions are over simplified, so from experience I'm telling you not to get overconfident. Also, I memorized all 100 drugs from this book and like everyone else said, it's not enough. I went in to the test having maybe 130 drugs down and definitely was not enough, so shoot for 200 if possible! Learn genetic, brand name, what it treats ,and what kind of drug it is. The book does a good job on covering the drugs is does but definitely lacks a good number of drugs. There were maybe 10 drug questions, of which only 4 I had seen on the book.Overall, the book lacks A TON of info. It nearly covers the tip of the iceberg on every subject and remember, the devil is in the detail. Don't take the test only studying this or you'll find yourself guessing during the test. In case you're wondering, I passed the test, however, i found myself completely lost half of it.

I like the diagnostic tests in the book towards the beginning
I like the diagnostic tests in the book towards the beginning. It allows me to find which areas I need to study most. It also has helpful tips on how to prepare and a test to see how much test anxiety you have. I have never been good at taking tests like that but this allows me to use my time wisely and gives me a time line to help me better prepare for it.

I took and passed the PTCE the first time using this book. It definitely helps, it gives you all the information needed working in a retail setting as well as a hospital setting. I have recommended this book to my coworkers who want to become certified and licensed.
