Chronicles of Narnia 8-Book Box Set (International Special Edition)

I have loved the Chronicles of Narnia since I was a kid and that is still the case. This kindle set is excellent value for money and makes it easier to read. Really pleased.

I already have these in hardback, but I thought it would be nice to have them on my Kindle. With the Kindle edition, you get the complete text of all seven books. There is also a decent contents page, with links to every book and chapter. A few extras - an intro with a transcript of an interview by Lewis’ stepson, and some early short stories (unconnected with Narnia). All in all, excellent value for money. I was, however, disappointed that most of Pauline Baynes’ beautiful illustrations are missing. In particular, those wonderful maps which provide such a helpful vision of Narnia and her neighbours. We get one small random illustration at the beginning of each chapter, and that’s it. I know the Kindle edition is great value, but I would willingly have paid extra for a full illustrated version - Pauline Baynes adds so much. I’ve grown up with these books, and for me, the pictures and maps are an integral part of the experience. It’s a bit like reading Alice in Wonderland without John Tenniel’s illustrations. A good read, but something is missing. 🙁

The Chronicles of Narnia are 7 wonderful adventures experienced on two or three levels: children's adventure stories, adults' and children's adventures in the Christian life and their spiritual being, and an adventure into the future of planet Earth. Perfect for reading aloud to children from 8 upwards they're moving and inspiring for adults as well. There's humour, knotty problems we all face and positive ways to face them, a new and lovely way of perceiving and respecting animals and the environment, knightly battles and daily battles, and an open acceptance of the different and the little. These books retain their excitement and inspiration after many readings, especially because the more one reads them, the more one sees in them and can apply to one's life and aspirations. There is the battle between Good and Evil throughout and the most helpful, natural and comforting confrontation of weakness, failure, struggle, mutual responsibility. Evil and death are faced and gone through positively. Different beliefs are respected. Sound theology is well grounded in reality. An inspired man wrote these books.

These books are excellent, fantastic quality at a great price, beautiful illustrations, love this edition.

The voyage of the dawn treader is the most adventurous of the amount of Narnia books i have read. It is first set at Lucy,Peter,Susan and Edmund's cousin Eustace's house. Eustace who is spoilt,believes he is better than everyone. Peter had gone to the proffesors house to study with him so he could help Peter. Susan was away on holiday with their parents to give her a break and so she could learn new things. At one time when Edmund and Lucy were in a bedroom at Eustace their cousins house, when Eustace came up to tell them to come down in an angry mood and suddenly the picture on the wall had water flowing out.Then suddenly they appeared in Narnia in the ocean in front of the ship in the painting. They were pulled up and met Prince Caspian to tell them why they are on such a long journey.Later in the book in the middle they come to a dark place where dreams come true and luckily they escape. At the end 3 children and Reepicheep set out for the end of the world and leave Reepicheep there then they find land and meet Aslan and he tells them they can't copme back to Narnia but if they want to see him again they must find out the name he is called on Earth.

I bought this set of The Chronicles of Narnia for my daughter's 7th birthday, and she absolutely loves it! She was so excited that she couldn't even wait until her birthday to open it. The books are of great quality with no unpleasant smell, and the paper feels nice and durable. The only minor downside is that the font size is a bit small, which can be challenging for younger readers. However, with a little help, she’s been enjoying the magical adventures of Narnia. Overall, it's a fantastic collection that makes a perfect gift for any young book lover. Highly recommend!

海外ドラマやYouTubeを英語字幕をつけて見れば，言ってること完璧にはわかんないけどメッセージはほぼ完全に汲み取れる程度の英語力です。 思春期〜大人向けのエッセイや小説（ハリーポッターなど）ではわからない単語がかなりの頻度で出てくるため，辞書を開きながらでないと読めません。かと言って子供の頃に誰もが聞いたおとぎ話（不思議の国のアリス）はあまりにも面白みがなさすぎて続きませんでした。この本は自分にとって丁度いい難しさだったと思います。 正直値段が値段なので，多読に興味ある人は『自分の英語力を計る』という目的も考えると買って損ないと思います。難しいなと感じたらもっと子供向けのやつ読むとか英語字幕付きの映画とかから再トライすればいいし，簡単だなと思ったら「ネイティブ小学生レベルのものは理解できるんだ」という自信を100円で買ったと思って大人向けのものを読めばよいのではないでしょうか。個人的には思いがけずいい買い物でした！ ○語彙 わからない単語ももちろん出てきますが，kindleではサッと引けるのでほとんどストレスになりません。１単語のものはぱっと分かる一方で，句動詞などに対してはほぼ役に立ちません。しかし，ある程度推測ができるのでストーリーを追いかけられなくなることはないでしょう。 また，普通の小説ではあまりにも単語の範囲が広すぎるというのが，学習面的にもストレスでした。どの単語を覚えるべきで，どの単語はそこまで重要でもないという判断が独力ではできないのです。しかし，この文章は小学校低学年の子向けのものなので，この本で出てきたほぼすべての言葉は覚えておいて損はないと思っています。個人的にはこの『出てきた単語は全部覚える』というのが，単純明快でかなりのモチベーションになっています。 ○長さ 普通の小説に比べ，各チャプターがかなり短いです（子供向けだからでしょうか）。これが寝る前，お風呂，電車などのちょっとした一時に読むのにとても役立っています。 ○ストーリー ファンタジーが嫌いでなければそれなりに楽しめると思います。しかし，普通に小説としての面白さを期待して読むと，説明があっさりしすぎていてがっかりします。ですが逆にこの「続きが気になる！」みたいな後味がないことが，やはり寝る前の時間的には結構いい感じです。 ✕文章構成 他の方のレビューにもありますが，説明がかなりくどいことがあります。補足がやたらカッコ書きで書かれていて冷めてしまったり，「その人は傘をさしていた。（中略）先程言ったように片方の手には傘を持っているわけだが，もう片方の手で小包を持っていた」みたいな表現が結構あったり。いやわかったよって気持ちにさせられることが多々あります。ここはもう割り切っています。
