Why aren't they as good as the old ones? UPDATED
These work in a slightly different way to the older ones... rather than have an "All on" and "All off" buttons it has an "All off" and "Mood" buttons which need to be programed differently. Turn all items on individually then press and hold the Mood button. I'm a bit moody about all this now so I'll finish this update. This is my second set of these items, I needed to replace one plug that has stopped working. The old ones are branded as Seimens, the new have Lightwave. The new ones have the same model number on the back as the old ones which are about six years old. The old remote is compatible and works with the new plugs. Seems perfect? They were way more expensive than Energenie ones, so maybe I should have swapped supplier, but the remote on these is a bit more elegant. The biggest issue is none of the new plugs respond to the "ALL ON" button with the new or old controller. They do respond to the "ALL OFF" button on both controllers and they can be turned on individually. So a bit rubbish for turning on a set of lights in a room from a single point, which is what I wanted to achieve, which the old set did for years... OK, so you can do it with the MOOD button.

This is my second purchase of remote control sockets. ...
This is my second purchase of remote control sockets. The first set (different maker) had to be returned. I plugged the sockets in paired them and tested them from a room at the far end of the house. Everything functioned perfectly. I've awarded 4 stars as I can't predict long term reliability. They're also quite expensive as are the other devices in this system. Maybe sometimes you have to pay extra for quality.

Don't buy!
Poor quality. One plug lasted about 2 days before it stopped working. Another one lasted a whole week! I tried putting a new battery in the remote, in case that was the problem (wasted £4). Also tried resetting them, but that only confused things as two plugs operated when I pressed one button, then after a couple of hours it stopped working altogether. Useless! I had a similar system from another manufacturer, which lasted almost 4 years but they don't seem to make them anymore (so I know how to set them up). Tried these and they are terrible.I sent them back for a refund.

Love them but don't forget to buy a CR2032 battery!
Can't speak for the reliability of these units but they are certainly worth the extra cost compared to a lot of the other offerings for remote sockets. The first thing that impressed me is the fact that I can plug all three of them side by side in an extension socket. Many things like these are often so big that you're unable to use the plug sockets next to them but these, although it's a slightly tight fit, will fit side by side which I find pretty convenient. They're very easy to programme, although I think they should have come with a manual which i'm pretty sure they didn't.Very responsive to the remote once setup and it's nice that the remote has 4 different switch positions so if I had multiple sets of these I would have up to 16 different sets if I really wanted. Also knowing that I can add these with other LightwaveRF devices is nice.I mainly bought them so I can switch my Audio monitors and Sound mixer on remotely rather than having to lean behind my desk and use the switches on the backs. And I used the spare socket for my desk lamp so I can now switch it on from my bed as my room isn't big enough for a bedside table and lamp.As far as I know the remote didn't come with a battery, luckily I just happen to have a stash of CR2032 batteries lying around bit it's something I don't imagine a ton of people having the luxury of.Would have been nice to have a quick start guide included too or at least have it printed on the packaging, even though I did manage to programme them quickly by logically working it out.

I will not be buying LightwaveRF gadgets again.
After 5 months of very occasional use 1 of the three sockets died completely, so I am now on my second socket (I only use one at a time). Also, I did not realize that to use my phone for controlling the socket I need to buy another piece of equipment to connect it to WiFi - I incorrectly presumed that I would be able to connect it directly to my router. My fault. BTW, their tech support is unprofessional: for a week no one answered and then I was told that the person who could answer my question was not there (so it is just one guy?). The lady promised to call back and never did.Pros: long range of the remote control, although decreasing with time.

Good, but pricey and no feedback loop
Good functionality, but could be better. There is no feedback to give the status of the switch whether it is on or off. Also, the wifi adapter is expensive. Still handy though; I've used it to control a starlight projector in baby room, and wired to an extension lead powering lamps in our bedroom. Is also about half price at B&Q! (Branded Siemens)

Outstanding
I have been using this system for nearly three years. All the plugs i bought continue to work relibably. The hub is simple to set up and robust. I moved house and the hub and app automatically reconfigured to my new ip address.Switch on via the app is instantaneous if you're connected to the same wifi network or a slight delay if commanding remotely. The technical support (from Megaman) is outstanding. When the hub developed a fault, they simply asked me to post it to them and they immediately replaced it with a brand new one.The only negative is the Android app. However there is an excellent third party one which costs about a quid and does everything you could want so it's really not an issue.Would thoroughly recommend.
