Beautiful, deep, reflective
I love this book! It's a feast for the soul - lyrical, thought-provoking and profound. I've only recently come across David Whyte's work and I find both his prose and poetry really speaks to me. In 'Consolations' he takes everyday words and comes up with some amazing insights. Words that you use regularly without much thought suddenly take on tremendous depth, or meander along untrodden paths which you might never otherwise have taken. You can dip in and out of this book; use it for meditation or reflection or even as a basis for a discussion group. It'll make you pause and reflect ... something we don't do enough these days.

A poetic feast for the soul
This beautiful, reflective book is great to revisit and dip into now and then when you want to be inspired and consoled. I'm still reading snippets from it when I feel the need for the author's insights and soothing poetic voice. It's good to have a fresh perspective on words which we are apt to take for granted or have only a sketchy awareness of their deeper meaning. And this lyrical book certainly opens your eyes to the way words speak to us. A poetic feast for the soul. I loved it!

A gift for the depths of our understanding of self....brilliant
Wow! Consolations is brilliant. David manages to give us a gift of life love and whatever else that makes us understand ourselves in this world. Words , mystical and he brings us alive into understanding from the depths of the heart. Especially in the break up of a relationship. I have found reading his poems at the right moment and have been helpful in my life...

Words, Well Why Not Indeed
David Whyte's words resonate, as effectively as his use of repetition when he reads them. He brings daily pleasure to my bare or overflowing table. I wish him well.

Pure magic - a book to cherish
The poet at his best - as insightful as ever. It is pure magic as David Whyte finds his poetry in the conversational nature of reality (as he calls it). A book to cherish.

Wonderful
A wonderful collection of essays on the concepts behind the keywords we use, and sometimes overuse, in our everyday lives. Subtlety and intelligence explain and describe and explore; they indeed provide consolation in difficult times.

Resource for Language Lovers
This book covers an incredible breadth of topics. I first read it straight through, but now I often use it as a resource depending on my mood. When Iโm feeling happy, I turn to the chapter on "joy"; when Iโm disappointed, I turn to "disappointment." It speaks volumes about the human condition and captures the elegance contained within a single word.
