The product works it just hasn’t stopped the noise transference as we think noise is travelling through ceiling. It has dumbed down reverberation in the room so it does what it is supposed to.

This product - at the price - does an exceedingly job at what it's designed to do. That is to absorb mid to high frequencies being reflected within the room, not sound proof from noisy neighbours. The reduction (in reflection energy) is both audible and measurable, although that is after coating a smooth concrete wall - probably the worst starting point. I wasn't too worried about colour (I bought it for sound control, not aesthetics) but the 'camel' does blend rather nicely with a light sandy/linen-coloured paint. It says that glue isn't provided and it isn't; I used 'spray mount' glue and, well, they glued and are still glued!

Much more effective than the foam diffuser. Although they serve slightly different purposes, felt positioned 2 cm away from the surface provides damping over a much wider frequency range.

I’m on a budget but really wanted to improve the acoustics in my small home cinema (L 3.33 × W 2.78 × H 2.38 m). I chose these because they were one of the only options at this price that actually include absorption coefficient data and NRC figures (plus my partner hates the classic egg-crate foam look). These aren’t a one-stop solution for treating an entire room, but for what they are and what they cost, I really love these BXI panels. I loved them enough that I’ve now bought two more packs (18 panels total). To see what they were actually doing, I measured the room before and after using two consumer apps – ClapIR and Clap Reverb – on an iPhone 15 Pro Max, with the phone roughly in the centre of the room and multiple claps and runs for each test (plus removal of outliers and finding a mathematical average). This is a home amateur test, not a scientific one. RT60 times (octave bands): • 500 Hz: 0.39 s → 0.26 s • 1 kHz: 0.35 s → 0.30 s • 2 kHz: 0.40 s → 0.29 s • 4 kHz: 0.26 s → 0.23 s • Broadband (250 Hz–2 kHz): ~0.35 s → ~0.29 s • Schroeder frequency (approx.): ~252 Hz → ~230 Hz As expected given the panel thickness, 125–250 Hz didn’t change much and the test results were less reliable. Given I spent the same amount on 3 packs of BXI panels as I would have spent purchasing just one large thick expensive panel, the numbers really impressed me. Pros: • BXI actually provide absorption coefficient data and NRC figures up front, which is rare at this price. • They look good - no ugly egg-crate foam, and they still offer better mid/high absorption than many cheap competitors. • Very easy to cut, position and install. The size works well for awkward spaces and custom cuts. • Lots of mounting options (nails, 3M Command strips, etc.). • My room now sounds more controlled and “professional”, with clearer audio and less echo. Cons: • They are too thin to do much in the low frequencies. • The material does attract hair, dust and fluff quite easily. • The design doesn’t really lend itself to leaving an air gap behind them without extra DIY. • I’d prefer the black to be slightly darker and richer for a more premium look. What these panels won’t do: • They won’t magically fix bass problems on their own. • The description notes the word “soundproofing panels”, they are not a true solution for soundproofing or isolation, they don’t have mass and acoustic panels are not made for this purpose. But they do improve the way the sound sounds within a room. Overall: I think these could work perfectly in a budget set up like mine, where the cost to buy lots of thick panels would be too expensive - so these plus a few thicker panels make a good combo. The room both looks better and sounds noticeably better since adding them. The measurements / tests gave me confidence they are doing exactly as intended. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is their effectiveness at low frequencies. Great value for money, would recommend!
