I bought it to make me learn more chord variations. You need to like jazz or standards but it’s very useful in that context.

Good nick. A must have for the gigging jazz musician.

The book is fine but it should be clealry sated that it is in the smal A5 format. It s still clearly readable and possibly more portable, but I intended to order the A4 format. It seems that selecting among paperback and plastic bound, not only the binding changes but the format too!

Great book is the real book sixth edition,good songs with nice chord changes

A very varied book of both old and newer jazz standards although they have substituted some of the early standards for newer ones in this latest edition which was previously mentioned by another customer. I am finding it excellent for improving my sight reading skills with as many as 800 even the lesser known ones are a challenge. I play the oboe but there are only one or two which songs which have notes below or higher than the oboe range.

Arrived very quickly and considerably cheaper than elsewhere. This is a very chunky edition and has a handwritten feel that is very accessible.

Habe inzwischen schon einige Fakebooks oder auch Real-Books die es ja zuhauf zu kaufen gibt in meinem Notenbetsand. Komme eigentlich aus einer klassischen Ecke der Musik am Klavier - allerdings beschäftige ich mich seit zwei Jahren vermehrt mit Jazzharmonik. Wenn man mit klassischer Harmonielehre hinreichend vertraut ist ist es einem denke ich schnell möglich mit diesem Realbook wirklich gute Jazzstandards auch bald vom Blatt abspielen zu können. Zunächst zur Optik: Ringbuch mit Plastikrücken, wenn man oft damit spielt lösen sich hier gerne mal die kleinen Plastiklaschen, aber insgesamt sehr praktisch. Notenbild ist nicht toll, aber gut spielbar. Großdruck, nur wichtiges ist aufgeführt, bei jedem Titel stehen Komponist / Jahresangabe und die gebräuchlichsten Formen der Harmonisierung. Wer mit Jazzharmonik noch keine Erfahrungen hat muss sich dort langsam reinfuchsen - je länger man sich damit beschäftigt umso einfacher wirds allerdings. Mir selbst ist es nicht sonderlich schwer gefallen und ich denke wer einige Jahre Erfahrung mit einem Musikinstrument hat kann sich schnell reinlesen. Die Notation erfolgt nicht in falschen oder ungenauen Gitarrennotationen sondern in wirklicher "Jazz-Schreibweise" mit der man sich allerdings lange beschäftigen sollte - das macht sich später bezahlt. Zum Umgang: Bleistift und Notenpapier parat legen oder ein entsprechendes Notationsprogramm (z.B. Finale o.ä.), möglichst ein Basisbuch zur Musiktheorie (z.B. Schneider), viel Zeit und gute Ohren, Genauigkeit und zumindest am Anfang ein wenig Ausdauer - Spielspaß kommt von ganz allein ;-) Weitere Realbooks sind übrigens das Latin-Realbook, 2 oder 3 andere Real / Fakebooks von Hal Leonhard die nur wenige Überschneidungen haben und sich zum Teil sogar was Akkordfolgen angeht gut ergänzen. Dies ist kein Billig-Buch für Gitarrenanfänger sondern eine wirkliche Hilfe für einen guten Einstieg in Jazzwelt und Alltime-Standards. Mir hat das Buch sehr viel geholfen und es wird nie langweilig da die Auswahl groß ist und man auch schnell Erfolge erkennen kann wenn man sich intensiver mit der Materie beschäftigt.
