Futuristic-looking and fabulous
Living in a relatively minimalist flat, aesthetic is particularly important, even when it comes to functional products. As security cameras go, Canary Flex is futuristic-looking and fabulous and, despite not being at all techy, once I’d picked whether I’d prefer to have it inside or out (I went inside but think I may be buying another one for outside!) I found it really easy to set up and use. Its in-built GPS means it knows when I’ve left the house so when to switch on and off which is handy and it’s got a free 24-hour recording feature which is a real bonus. Would definitely recommend.

Maybe all the bad reviews are when it’s on battery only
I have a couple of the indoor canary’s so rather then having a different system for outdoor I took the plunge on this Flex camera. I have it wired overlooking my rear garden and it works just as well as the indoor cameras. So far it’s not missed a thing. I even get about 2 seconds of recording prior to an event capture.Maybe all the bad reviews are when it’s on battery only. I never tried that so can’t comment.Looses a star due to price and limited functionality without subscription. Saying that I got a discount code which gave me 1 years sub for £39. Not bad price for all that cloud storage.Canary if u read this id recommend u remove the restrictions for none subs. It’ll help u out tons, people like me will still buy a sub for the 30 days cloud.

Highly recommended
I decided to try out the Canary Flex after receiving rave reviews from a good friend. As promised, it was exceptionally simple to set up and I had it streaming to my phone in no time. Although I primarily purchased the camera for security reasons, I’ve also been able to use it to check on my dog while I’m at work. This has been equal parts hilarious and exasperating; the latter because I now realize how much time he spends doing all the things he isn't supposed to do (like licking pillows). Luckily, I can yell at him using the two-way talk function; unluckily, he doesn’t seem to care. Either way, the audio and video quality are fantastic, as is the zoom function. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone concerned about home security or merely interested in seeing the less impressive side of their beloved pets.

Please Please don't buy, not a long term solution
I would never have one of these again. I signed up for a service that was clearly described and the manufacturer has changed the features since my purchase. If I want geolocation, night vision, recording, storage I now need to pay per month. Completely useless. Neither Amazon or the manufacturer think this is unfair and the issue is that they may choose to remove features in the future. What a terrible business model.EDIT: A few years later and they have reduced the features further. No longer any motion detection for humans, no recording/previews and the app has just had a mandatory update and it is full of 20 - 30 second ads before you can see the live view - great way to let the robbers get away. it's just another load of landfill. Companies should be fined for doing this. I was an early adopter and supported this company when they where growing. and now? no interest from them whatsoever. Stay clear.

Great as a baby monitor or for internal use but the cordless battery mode is not fit for purpose
Really disappointed to have to give a low review for this, I have the original Canary device and highly rate it, I watched the CNET review on this and on both those experiences being positive took the plunge and ordered this to cover the back yard. I was really impressed with the design, and just like my other Canary the simplicity of set up. Another key factor in ordering this was it fits within the app so I can check both cameras, one eco-system.I got it charged up and tested, live stream connection was a little slow to start but equally I've moved to an area with relatively poor internet, we are eagerly awaiting fibre which is going in currently, so I can forgive a little delay on that front. But it was as soon as the camera was on battery monitoring that I saw issues, then I saw in the forums other people have the same issues. When this camera is on battery to save it's juice it goes into a detect mode, only it barely detects anything, even on high sensitivity and if it does detect anything it's boot up is so slow its long missed the action. It's an ambitious product and beautifully designed, the shape, the magnet point, but it does not work on battery and is therefore useless to me and I've returned it, I'm likely to order another normal Canary and mount that inside the house pointing out of a back window instead. Real shame, but I think they should pull the product or at least the cordless facility, can't believe that didn't come up in product testing, it's so fundamental.

Canary Flex not what it should be
I have a canary indoor unit which works fine and gives me notifications and detections even when I was in France. However I bought this unit to cover the garden entry and therefore for use outside. I could not achieve a satisfactory motion detection trigger unless I was around eight feet from the sensor. I could adjust but the device would not keep motion detection settings for sensitivity. So in essence I lost any confidence in the device working as it should so I returned it.I'm not saying that the Flex does not work per se, I'm just surprised to have something not work very well for me considering the high price. Also the video output is not 1080 but 720 so there's product misinformation already. Also the UK support line does not seem to work even though I did use it a few weeks ago and I did talk to someone there. Not sure whats going on with that.I would recommend the indoor Canary Unit but not the Flex on the basis of my experience.

Really great camera with excellent features
A great little security camera which we've also been using as a baby monitor. It's a sleek and neat design, and works from battery which is a really great touch if you want to move it around with ease. The 24 hour recording feature is a real bonus - we've also got a Nest Cam and there's no free recording included with it, so the Canary is a much better option for us. The picture and sound quality is great, and notifications mean you know exactly what is going on at home if you're away. The GPS setting means it switches on automatically when you leave home, and off again when you return. Would definitely recommend this.
