It's arrived ! I first discovered this deck on Kat Black's website last summer.It was due to come out in October, then November, then no-one seemed to know when it would be out.I can only say now that good things come to those that wait.I received mine in the post yesterday.It's a joy to pour over the cards.Black is an artist who is steeped in Renaissance art, especially gilded art-thus the deck's title-AND she's steeped in Tarot.She originally made this deck for her own personal pleasure, so it really is a labour of love.The 78 cards are collages of over 1000 Renaissance paintings, many of them Italian.They are so well collaged that they don't look like collage at all, more like fully-realized paintings in their own right. They are very beautiful.All the Minors are fully-illustrated, and are as pleasing to the eye as the Majors. Black very wisely has eschewed the more well-known images-by da Vinci, Botticelli, Michelangelo,etc-in favour of equally interesting but less publicized works.I was pleased to find my beloved Hans Memling represented here. . .and I have just discovered Simone Martini's sublime angels ! The accompanying booklet is intelligently and sensitively written-the Appendixes contain information on all the paintings used-title of painting, artist, where the painting can be seen.This is a lovely touch : not only is this a lovely Tarot deck-lovely AND accurate-I've done 2 small readings already-but it serves as a very nice introduction to many superb and rather neglected paintings belonging to a particular period.It's not all Virgins and angels, either-there are wonderful details such as the Italian greyhound in the Hermit card, a female Fool, and many instances of so-called ordinary people going about their lives :farming, weaving, playing musical instruments, celebrating festivals, etc. I must stop raving. This is a gorgeous deck wonderfully produced by U.S. Games and packaged in a little box ideal for keeping book and cards together. It is also incredibly inexpensive. Anyone who loves Art, Tarot-regular or not, would welcome this as a present, I think. Oh, and the cards are all gilt-edged.

I purchased this deck some 7 years ago when l was first starting my tarot journey. I Had no clue then which deck to buy but avidly looked at as many as I could here on Amazon. Finally l settled on the Golden Tarot. So pleased l bought them, the medeival artwork which attracted me was even more wonderful close up, each card is truly lovely and well thought out. The High Priestess card has become my favourite, she sits so quietly regal on her throne with her leopard by her side. The strength card a good runner up, in fact there are so many. From my experience of having had no firsthand knowledge of tarot back then, and being a real beginner, I would say without any doubts that any beginner can start with this deck. Put the time in and it will speak to you. There are so many decks out now and l have collected a few, but I always go back to the Golden Tarot, as the longer l use it the more it works for me, especially in an intuitive way. I have given scores of readings with this deck and it has proved to be gentle and accurate. Not only are the pictures beautiful and the golden gilt edges sumptuous, the box they come in is very strong and will take good care of your cards. The little blue book that accompanies the cards has adequate meanings both for upright and reversed. There is also history on the source of the artwork used in the deck. Considering how long I have had this set l can say they have hardly shown any wear. To be on the safe side though and before they may get too difficult to obtain in the future, I have just ordered a second set. Most of my other decks I have passed on to others, as I am not a collector and they are not a match to the Golden Tarot (at least for me). I am more than content to grow old alongside my faithful Golden Tarot friends.

This was the first tarot deck I bought, after studying Rider-Waite about three years ago. I'd been recommended to go for the Rider-Waite for its simplicity and as a starting point, but I was just drawn to this deck and knew I had to have it. After owning these cards for some time I have built up a relationship with them, so hopefully this review will be more useful than pure first impressions. For a start they are beautifully packaged and designed. Very few of the artworks used are instantly recognisable, and I find it a thrill when I visit galleries or go on holiday and suddenly see one of the familiar faces looking back at me, in an entirely different context. I'd just returned from a holiday in Italy when I was introduced to tarot, and this deck resonated with me due to its use of medieval and renaissance art, which I'd encountered a lot out there, and love. To see so many beautiful images combined, and so carefully, is great. I sometimes just look at them for their beauty rather than for any messages they may have. But when it comes to readings they are accurate and tell their meanings in simple, often obvious ways. Although loosely based on Rider-Waite some of the cards are quite complex, so not ideal for a complete beginner that has no clue about tarot and wants to learn from this pack. The little (very little) book that comes with the deck is basic but insightful, and is just enough to get you started before you start to build up your own interpretations. I am not naturally 'psychic' but since using the cards my ability has increased, and my readings (once for willing guinea-pig friends, but now for anyone who asks) often take me by surprise with how accurate some of the images I get are. Black's second deck, the Touchstone tarot, is produced along similar lines. It's also beautiful but hasn't quite the connection with me that this one has. Of course that's just personal preference, but this will always remain my favourite deck that I use (probably too often, the gold has faded a bit) and I'm glad that they are so popular and that other people share my love for this deck.

I admit that I am a relative novice to Tarot, however I do think these are cards of a very high standard. The quality of card, the finish and designs are as good as one could expect. I appreciate some reviewers simply don't like the cards for personal reasons, but in terms of overall product quality I think they are hard to fault. I only have three packs of cards, and this is without a doubt the standout pack in terms of finish and clarity of design. The other packs have their own merits. They are easy to read, come with a straightforward guide and fulfill their aim of being beautiful, colourful and a joy to behold. For some they are perhaps too gilded and rich, but if you want a Rolls Royce of Tarot cards, this surely has to be it. I would recommend this pack. Especially if you are just beginning to read. Like me. Or not. Either way. The negative reviews don't seem to have fault with the quality or design of the product, so I would take them with a pinch of salt. The size seems fairly standard (larger than a pack of playing cards).

WOW! Out of approximately 80 Tarot decks I have collected, these are by far one of my favourite, if not THE favourite. This is the deck I have always wanted, being a huge fan of Ancient Italian decks and the Renaissance. Every card is enriched with detail and beautiful imagery. The card stock is thick, glossy and very smooth to shuffle. A slight caution though (but please don't let this put you off buying, make sure you find a good seller): I don't usually include such issues in my reviews, but this is obviously a problem with the publishing. The cards are gilt edged, which look stunning - however some cards stick together - so please make sure, upon your first inspection that two cards are stuck together before you panic that a card is missing from your deck. However, cards WERE missing from my card, after an hour of counting and checking each card the last few Coin cards must have slipped away during factory packing. I did a quick google search and found a shocking amount of people missing one or several cards (im not sure if they had checked thoroughly enough though). Thankfully, I use the Book Depository Ltd and they sent me a replacement out free of charge, so make sure you order from a good seller with plenty of stock just in case. I emailed US Games Inc to inform them that some of packs appeared to be missing cards. Anyway, that aside - these cards are THE cards to have. They will blow you away, they did me anyway :)

Beautiful tarot deck with impressive gilt edging. The pictures are wonderful. The box is great quality. My only reservation is the Wheel of Fortune and The World cards which miss the mark for me. Would love to see her revise those two in the next edition. A work of art and a must for the serious collector.

It's elegant and profound with its dark colours and serious faces and yet friendly and communicative. It's an exciting, beautiful Tarot and a joy to look at. I didn't have a taste for medieval and renaissance art until I got this deck. I am very taken by its wonderful imagery. The accompanying small and simple book includes a black and white image of each card and explains each picture and its meaning in an upright and reversed position. It also lists the painting sources that each Tarot card was made up from. The stiff, wider than usual cards are robust and edged in shining gold, with a slightly laminated finish and come in a robust, luxury box. It would be OK for a beginner, although I would recommend having some familiarity with the Rider-Waite deck first because the RW is silighty more obvious and simple. The Golden Tarot's imagery may distract the beginner a little. It's a 'must own' deck for the serious reader and collector and its money well spent.

If you want a variation on your usual tarot pack, this is definitely worth considering. Its beautiful, with the edges in Gold, it comes in a lovely pack, and the images themselves are strong echoes of the Rider Waite pack that many of us are used to. The images are beautiful, a collage of works of art that becomes in itself a work of art. After many years of RW i need a little variation although the images are toned down a little the strong influence of the RW pack is clearly there. The booklet that accompanies it gives the inspirations for all 78 of the images on the cards. Its a pity the type face is so small, you will almost certainly need a magnifier for the book, but the research to produce these fine cards is evident.

I was so impressed by the beauty of this deck that I was even afraid to touch the cards! Just stunning!

First of all, I thought these cards would be larger than I imagined but I still love these cards. The golden edges are beautiful and the Renaissances/medieval/late Middle Ages style arts are stunning, I love how they can represent accurately what cards they are, particularly my two favorite cards: Strength card and Death card and their representations behind them. Sometimes, they do give off rather ominous feeling, both good and bad. Not only this small box came with the stunning cards, but also 200 pages booklet explaining the rules and cards. I'd recommend the reading cloth and tarot reading small bag to put the cards in (mine are astrology signs), which unfortunately didn't come with this set and follow the book closely to those who are inexperienced. I have some of sort of collection, which are: Ouija board, pendulum stone, and even some spell books. They're fun to have, but like I said they should be handled with great care. Sometimes, they can have unexpected results. Thank you, Kat Black, for this stunning set of tarot cards. I'd recommend this.

I can’t recommend this deck enough! It’s perfect for beginners – I’ve bought it multiple times to gift to friends and family because it’s just that good. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous – classic and timeless – and it really pulls you in. The cards are thick and large, making them feel solid and comfortable to shuffle, and they have a nice weight to them that feels luxurious in your hands. The accompanying guidebook is one of the best I’ve come across – super clear and easy to follow, which makes learning tarot a breeze. Plus, it comes in a sturdy box, so everything stays safe and organized. This is the set to buy if you want to learn tarot or want to gift a set to someone to learn classic tarot. If you’re just starting out or looking for a beautiful deck to add to your collection, this one’s a winner!

Kat Balck's Golden Tarot is my first Tarot deck and it is very beautify. These are gilded cards and are one of its kind. I have been using this deck to learn and read for the past few months and I find it to be a very effective for beginners. I did a lot of research before deciding to buy this deck. Here is what I love about this deck: 1. The box that this tarot deck comes in is very sturdy, it protects the cards and it make it convent for you to pull a card right from the box without taking the entire set of cards out. So I pick out one card everyday and learn about it then place it back in the box without having the need to pull out all the cards to just pick one card. 2. The cards have gilded edges <3 <3 It gives a regal and antique feel to it. 3. This Tarot deck is a collage of various paintings so it looks authentic from the era that gave us Tarot. 4. Though this is a collage, I love the fine details on each card. Kat Black's deep understanding of the Tarot can be seen in every collage. Each and every image that's on these cards have a meaning. 5. The late Middle Ages and early Renaissance images used in these cards have a very good recall when you are learning the Tarot. 6. The cards are thick, sturdy, glossy, the print on it is of very high quality. This is bigger than your Original or Universal Rider-Waite decks. 7. The Booklet that comes along with these cards also fit into the box. It is handy and it gives you a good interpretation of the cards. It also has an exhaustive index with details on the sources from where the images were taken to complete the Tarot collage. 8. I feel a strong connection with these cards. Now I can see why it is very important to pick a Tarot deck you best connect with. 9. I also feel that when you are doing a reading for someone else, they should also feel comfortable with the deck. This deck doesn't have any disturbing art form that might worry the person for whom you are reading. 10. The website goldentarot.com is a good place to learn about this Tarot deck. Things that I wish was better about this deck: 1. These cards are big and I find it hard to shuffle the entire deck so I split the deck into two and shuffle them separately. Then I divide the shuffled deck into three and later rearrange them. 2. People from that era don't show many emotions on their faces i.e. painted faces. So, I find it hard to read some cards that either lack emotions or show subtle emotions but as I am learning, I am gaining a better understanding of the emotions portrayed on each card. Guess I will get better at this as I learn and gain a good understanding of each card. 3. These cards stick to each other but that doesn't damage the print on the card. I guess they stick to each other because they are smooth and glossy. 4. Though Kat Black's deck follows RWS closely I find the imagery of the cards and interpretations mentioned in the booklet that comes along with these cards to diverge a little from the standard RWS. Since, I am still learning I am keeping an open mind, taking the best of both and seeing what works for me. In Kat Black's defense she says that she didn't set out to create a clone of RW cards. Instead she wanted these cards to portray her understanding of the Tarot. 5. Since I am a beginner the Booklet that comes along with this deck that holds the meaning of each card will not suffice. The Booklet is a good reference but if you want to learn more and dive deep I suggest that you read any good RWS book that talks about each card in detail. I wish Kat Black comes out with a book that interprets each card in great detail. There are '+' and '-' to this deck but the '+' outweigh the '-' in this case. If you are starting your Tarot journey and if the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance art appeals to you then I highly recommend that you own a Kat Balck's Golden Tarot.
