100% worth
I work in the construction industry and first bought this pencil back in 2024. It wasnt until this month I had to replace mine and specifically because the sharpner doesnt sharpen anymore. Nothing else is actually wrong with the pencil itself. The spring to push the lead out is starting to go out but it still works just fine, just takes a few more clicks to get it to catch the led. That being said I wish they would sell just the replacement screw top sharpeners. But, even though they dont it gives me an excuse to replace the pencil and get a nice new one. Theyre pretty damn durable. And youre paying for what you get. The pencil is actually really durable as far as daily use and I use mine daily 8 hours a day. The led it comes with is pretty good also, its not super soft so it lasts quiet a while. The finger grip, man, the finger grip sleeve thing makes a world of difference and has actually has me replace the pencil for the sharpner, instead of using my other carpenters pencil without one. You dont realize you really enjoy it, until you try to use a pencil without the finger grip and youre just holding the metal tube. I have a different brand of pencil, brand new, and I decided to not use it and just replace this pencil with another for that reason. And they updated their led holder to a cool slide out, led holder instead of just the clear plastic cases youd normally get with other pencils. I found it super cool and a neat way to keep the led protected until I need to refill my pencil. Overall. Im pretty much a life long customer now that i took the chance on rhe first pencil. It was a bit pricey but when you consider ive used it every day, 6 days a week. For nearly 2 years and the only issue I had was the blade being dull and not sharpening anymore. That to me is a win. And if you have other sharpeners for the sized led they use, you really dont actually need to replace it, it just wont be attached to the pencil. Im sure you probably could just replace the physical blade itself, but again, I just wanted an excuse to buy another. So I bought the 2 pack and now I have a backup, and a brand new one, for when my pencil does actually give out. But 10/10, would recommend these to anyone who needs a carpenters pencils, or a deep hole pencil, it works fantastic as both. Only suggestion, would be to upgrade the quality of sharpner blade in the cap. As it goes out after a few years but again, with that being the only gripe I cant even truly complain. And with it being 2 years old of constant use, id say thats relatively good for a blade that ive never sharpened or replaced and its never not kept my led sharp. Again, 10/10 do recommend. Youre getting what you pay for. The price reflects this and its worth the purchase. Very durable. No issues with the led electoral rejecting the led when I need to write or mark some wood/metal. My daily driver tbh.

Time will tell
As a professional carpenter, for a couple years now I've been playing with "premium" woodworking pencils like the FatBoy and AlwaysSharp. In my opinion both of these are better suited for rough carpentry than finish work, only because for finer work the FatBoy needs constant sharpening and the AlwaysSharp only produces a sharp line with a fresh lead refill. Before buying this to try I purchased a mechanical pencil with .09 lead that seems to do a decent job without being too fragile but it's still limited to finish work. What I'm looking for is one pencil that performs well in both roughing and finishing applications. After watching several videos on many pencil brands like Pica and others that feature a sheath (I don't really need or want a sheath), I settled on this one because of its perceived versatility. I like being able to switch from a thick to thin grip and having an onboard sharpener. This just showed up so I've only been using it in my office to compile year-end bookkeeping just to get a feel for it and so far, writing only on paper, I'm impressed at how well the lead stays sharp. The large shaft is comfortable in my fingers and when it's removed the higher up grip doesn't feel terribly awkward. Its sharpener is a little wonky. It screws on and off and with plastic threads it's real easy to cross-thread at the start. I've had to stop and try again a half dozen times before getting the threads to mesh. Also, visibly it doesn't put a very sharp point on the lead even though after a few twists the lead makes a reasonably sharp line. I will say it sure peels shavings off, makes a lot in a hurry. I'll use this one for a while before deciding on purchasing more for my shop and as spares, so we'll see. Update: After full season of use I still like this pencil a lot. That said, I still wish the sharpener worked a little better and I have this on a pencil pull (retractable pencil holder) that clips to my toolbelt suspenders. Unfortunately the "pull" will sometimes pull the pencil apart, as if needing to replace the lead. Putting it back together isn't a big deal, just one of those unneeded frustrations while trying to get a job done.

Top quality, performs as supposed to. You can't ask for more than that.

A few issues, but still an FANTASTIC pencil for rough and finish carpentry.
I’ve always used the regular traditional carpenters pencils, mostly for smaller projects, but for a larger house-framing project, stopping to sharpen the pencil was getting pretty annoying and time consuming. So, I first purchased the single pencil with the six extra refill leads. What a great pencil! No sharpening needed, just a click of the button and you’re good-to-go. The lines are not super dark, but dark enough, and the leads are VERY strong. (From what I understand, that’s the trade-off– strength vs darkness, so maybe this is a good balance.) And, if you want a really, really fine line for precise measurements, the sharpener creates just that– a really really, fine point on the lead. If you want a thicker line, you can quickly and easily remove the lead and reverse it and use the fat, blunt, unsharpened end. But the good news is, for 99% of the time (when marking sole plates and top plates, or studs, or OSB panels, or whatever), you can just use the pencil as-is and it works great and doesn’t need sharpening or changing at all. I wanted to note that I’m also using engineered LSL lumber for some of the framing (which has a pretty rough, textured surface), and also OSB panels (that are a little rough as well), but this pencil has been great for both. Anyway, I was so impressed with this pencil that I went ahead and purchased the two-pack pencil set with lots of extra leads. I wanted an extra pencil to keep at the miter saw, and another for my helper. However, a Few Issues: 1) So, there is a removable black finger-grip tip that allows you to mark through a small pre-drilled hole or just have a much skinnier pencil. (Not something that I really care about, but others might want to know this.) Anyway, the black finger-grip tip is really, really difficult to remove. 2) Okay, so there are the REGULAR dark leads, and there are the lighter YELLOW leads that supposedly work on concrete and tile. I was looking forward to using the yellow leads for marking on a concrete slab, but I have not had any luck at all using the yellow leads. I tried them on smooth, finished concrete, and I tried them on rough, textured concrete, but the marks and lines are nearly invisible. I’m not sure if these yellow leads work on tile, but on concrete, not so much. Very disappointed about that. Finally, Some Nit-Picky Things: 1) When I initially purchased the single pencil, there were no instructions at all, only a square you could scan with a smart phone to get instructions, but it’s not that difficult to figure out that the sharpener unscrews from the push button end of the pencil, and that to remove a lead or load a new one, you just press and hold the push button and the new lead goes into the tip of the pencil, not from inside the push-button end. However, although there were no instructions, there was lot’s of info about how you might win $20 by scanning a different square and registering all your personal info. (Not gonna happen.) BUT, if you buy the two-pack pencil set, you get a six page pamphlet that not only has the info for the “$20 you-might-win-bonus if you register”, but also has the actual instructions for how to use and operate the pencil. Whatever. 2) And finally, when you buy the two-pack pencil set, it comes with three black rectangular plastic holders with twelve extra leads in each. Two 12-packs of regular leads, and one 12-pack of yellow leads (which, as I mentioned earlier, don’t seem to work for what they are intended). It seems that this company has spent waaaay too much time (and money) on creating fancy containers for the leads. They are rectangular boxes, with a slide mechanism, and when you slide the slide, the lid flips up and twelve pointy leads rise up, kinda like a rectangular missile silo with twelve missiles popping up. However, for two out of three of these “silos” that came in the set, the lid just pops off completely, and then you have fiddle around trying to get it back on. Sure, I’m being nit-picky, but come on, just put the extra leads in a simple container! BOTTOM LINE: Fantastic carpenter’s pencil (despite the few issues), and a pretty decent price.

Used for 3 months and love them. Will buy again.
I've been using these for 3 months now. One with graphite and the other with yellow lead. I'm very pleased with them. The graphite is around HB hardness and works as you'd expect. The yellow is more like a hard crayon. It works well on concrete or brick. It wears on such rough surfaces but doesn't break which is nice. The sharpeners work ok. They won't easily make a needle point but I don't need one. The pencils are big enough to hold comfortably with gloves on. I don't use the deep hole feature very often so having the big grip is a plus for me. I haven't broken the clips yet. The clamp for the lead holds it tight enough that I can push the point into 2 by wood to mark a hole. No problems with the mechanisms at all. The always advance the lead. In general they are sturdy and well-made and I expect them to last until I lose them. I am very impressed with the boxes that hold the leads. The ones I received are not the ones shown. They are boxes with a lid. There are individual channels for each lead so there is no problem with breaking them even though the boxes are just tossed into a toolbox. Very nice.

Awesome 😎
Works great ! Lead is thick and strong, it gets shoved into my pencil holder on leather tool bag and doesn’t break, clicks are smooth and allows lead to advance nicely. The built in sharpener is ok, I say that because if you ware the lead down the sharpener works but takes a hot minute to get it back to a nice sharp point. Overall I highly recommend it 👍🏼

Great and working perfectly!
The pencil is really great and working so smoothly especially the sharping and the shape makes straight lines a piece of cake. One word: perfect!

great pencil for carpenters
This pencil came with several replacement graphites (even some for metal) and has a practical tiny built in sharpener. Works well and I can recommend. One thing though, the producer seems to expect everyone to speak French and besides a french-only leaflet they produced a useless plastic card with a QR code that leads you to their, again french-only website to register for warranty.

Having used traditional joiners pencils and ordinary pencils for years I have found this to be the best. Plenty of lead and rarely needs sharpening . The supplied leads are so far very strong and resist snapping off. For accurate marking the leads are easily sharpened to a fine point with the integrated sharpener. Worth the money
