is there supposed to be hydraulic fluid all over the outside of the jack?

Mine arrived with no hydraulic fluid on the outside of the Jack pat of the kit. I tried both lifting my hatch back and my suv with no issues

What if I lost the power supply after the car is jacked up?

In the case of sudden power failure, the jack will stop working and maintain a high level, not a sudden drop.You can lower the height by using the Allen key to loosen the safety valve and tighten it before putting it back into the box.
