I'd first like to throw out the disclaimer that my wife rarely wears perfume. It isn't because of any physical issues on either of our parts (we both enjoy the smell of her perfume), but she is a very no-nonsense gal who doesn't wear alot of makeup and thus she prefers a minimalist approach to her daily beauty routine - which rarely includes perfume. So when we both smelled the "Lacoste Eau de Lacoste Sensuelle Eau de Parfum for Women" our first impressions was that it was VERY strong. The only way I can describe it is it has a main floral scent with fruity overtones. I don't know if it smells exactly like "blackcurrant", but the fruity-ness is clearly there. I sprayed it into the air and then stepped into the falling mist and it was not over-powering, but still somewhat strong. When my wife sprayed a little on her wrist about 5 min later she said she was starting to get a headache. Kind of reminded me of the flowery scents that I remember my grandma and her friends wearing... So I guess we weren't that impressed. As far as the price goes, apparently "Eau de Parfum" describes an entire subset of fragrances distinct from "perfume". Perfume/Parfum is the highest end of the fragrance scale (and the most expensive) and will contain at least 15% of the "essential fragrance" (and typically up to 30%). Eau de Parfum is the next level and contains 8-15% of the essential fragrance. The last two levels are Eau de Toilette and Eau Fraiche/Eau de Cologne which have 5-8% and app. 3% respectively of the fragrance. So looking at the other Eau de Parfum's on Amazon.com, "Lacoste Eau de Lacoste Sensuelle Eau de Parfum for Women" is on the top end of the scale - much, much more expensive per ounce than almost all of its competitors (such as Guess Eau de Parfum Spray for Women, 2.5 oz - $22.47, Curve Vintage Soul By Liz Claiborne For Women, Eau De Parfum Spray 3.4 oz - $28.28, and Organza By Givenchy Eau De Parfum Spray, 1.7 Oz - $48.70). However, this may just be a byproduct of it being new on the market as several of the Eau de Parfume that I looked up, were steeply discounted - some 60-70%. This is somewhat typical for new products. The original price comes out at a level that the retailer hopes to get and then after the market is established for the product, the price is then adjusted (usually down). Overall, I think I am being somewhat generous in giving the product three stars. I didn't particularly like the scent and I think its priced much too high. However, at $20-$30 for this product, which I think it will eventually fall to, my opinion is slightly less negative.
