Légère Reeds - Bb Clarinet Reed, European Cut, Strength 2.50 (BBES2.50) - Premium Synthetic Woodwind Reed

Full disclosure: I am not a professional clarinet player but this Euro Cut Légère reed had good reviews here and also was recommended to me by several people. My personal experience is that, ironic as it sounds, it needs a little breaking in and so does the player, to get used to it. It vibrates pretty easily in low register but I am struggling with it in the high register. I do not struggle with cane reeds (Gonzalez being my favorite cane reeds). The Légère lacks warmth...very noticeable. It plays louder and sharper which for me translates to “cold.” I will keep this reed and continue to work with it. I bought a ligature recommended to me for this reed, a BG Flex, but not sure it allows enough vibration...had better luck with the old standard Rico everyone has. I have purchased two more ligatures and will try them both with this reed. I may also purchase a Légère Signature Classic to see if I like it better than the Euro Cut. I don’t know one clarinet player who has not gone through multiple reeds, mouthpieces, and ligatures before settling on a set-up they find consistently reliable for their music. I am no exception to that! UPDATE! I bought and am using a Bambu ligature with a metal plate...it works fantastic with this reed. Every note is sounding a lot better now and it’s easy to play altissimo with the new ligature (Bambu Nova). THIRD UPDATE: I now love the Légère Reed EuroCut. I needed to get used to it. Furthermore, I am using the BG Flex ligature and find it is an excellent set up and works well in all registers. I still maintain that the synthetic reeds lack the warmth of cane reeds but it’s a welcome tradeoff, considering how reliable and easy these reeds are to play. I still use a cane reed at beginning of my practice to make myself work but then I switch to Légère to play music so I can focus on the music and not as much on working out my air support!

My teenager is in high school marching band, has played the clarinet for four years throughout middle school. She has struggled to always have the right kind of wooden reed in the right condition, in its optimal state to play, and keeps breaking them and failing to reach really low or really high notes. I’ve bought her one of these after reading some reviews online, and hoped it would handle the undisciplined/unpredictable nature of wooden reeds it played by kids who maybe aren’t the best at taking care of them, and encourage her to practice more often.Right out of the box, she was able to loudly and clearly play every single note and says the hardest thing to do is play quietly, which is a new experience for her since she has always struggled to play loudly enough without sounding airy.She loved the reed so much that she asked for another one and has been a salesman for these among her peers. Highly recommend, particularly for kids and other non-professional musicians who are concerned with full functionality and clear tone, and aren’t obsessed with the minutia of sound/field differences between reeds.

I always use Legeres on my saxophones, but this is the first time I've tried it on a Clarinet. It's European Cut, so it makes me sound very sophisticated.

I have bought a couple of these throughout my clarinet years and still use them and they sound awesome. However once I bought one and it had been very hard to with compared to another one that I had. I just bought another and the box was a little beaten up. The reed has a few scuff masks so not sure if it has been used. It plays ok but its not always that you get a good reed. So its sort of a gamble between a pack of 5 regular or 1 platic reed. All in all I am satisfied with how long they last and when you get a good one the sound is amazing.

Signature (not Euro) is equivalent in feel of hardness to any of my clean sounding cane reeds of equal strength (Vandoren varieties of 3.5+, Gonzales FOF 3.75). Signature (not Euro) is also the same size/shape/ length so it fits all my ligatures well. Not to mention, it sounds great, is easy to control and I would add it probably takes some of the bite/shrill/overtone off of some notes perhaps this means it plays darker or with less timbre. I am not quite certain about all those tech terms yet. Signature EUROPEAN is not equivalent in strength or size/shape to my cane reeds. I ordered 3.75 European Signature and it is wider than cane, shorter than cane, plays more freely (similar feel to my best 3.0 reed, I would call it a 3.25). The European 3.75 was like a wild stallion out of the gate. I found that it played very loud easily but you can also play very softly! Just take control of your wind. It played all ranges like a hard reed but blows freely like a soft reed. Its quite enjoyable actually! As for intonation of all reeds ... I won't comment. B/c without of secure embouchure its hard to tell. I find many variances between all my cane reeds. I'm playing this on an M13 lyre profile 88. Happy experimenting! Playing is a freedom and a joy!!

I played the clarinet all through school from elementary school through college. That was 50 years ago. Now that I'm retired I've started playing again. I have a much better clarinet than I had back then, a professional level Selmer. So I started looking for the right reed. I would normally use a Vandoren #3. With my new Vandoren BD5 mouthpiece, the pressure was a bit high and the sound was a bit thin. So I decided to try a Legere synthetic reed. I started out with a Signature 2.75. The sound was great, but the pressure was still a bit too much. I then tried a Signature European Cut 2.5 and it is the best reed I've ever used. I also play the alto sax and the Signature 2.75 works great with my metal mouthpiece but not my Vandoren Optimum. What I learned is that these reeds are very sensitive to your mouthpiece and the way you play. I suggest starting out using the chart on the Legere site. If the pressure is too high, move to the next lower strength or move to the European Cut which has less pressure. Legere will exchange your reed for a different strength one time.

He usado esta caña por 2 meses y medio. El sonido es estable y redondo. Cambié porque cuando compraba cañas de madera, al menos 2 de cada 5 cañas venían de mala calidad, aunque fueran de buena marca. En Van Doren uso 3 y decidí comprar 3 en Legere. Al principio la sentí más blanca, pero me adapté fácilmente. Pienso comprar una segunda para tener respaldo.Sin duda una buena inversión.Edición: La compré el 10 de julio y ayer ya no vibró. La uso diario ya que trabajo como clarinetista. Muy recomendable, una duración de 4 meses con buen sonido. Un amigo me dijo que iba a recortarla para extender su vida útil.

Signature series plastic reed is a great product. When I used to buy cane reeds by the box several were not used as they were bad quality.I find I can use this right out of the box and not worry that it may not work.

Ich weiss nicht, warum es überhaupt die anderen Sorten gibt. Für mich ist dieses das einzige Kunststoff-Blättchen, was annähernd nach Holz klingt. Negativ: manchmal etwas zickig und entlockt schnell einen Quitscher, wo Holz nicht quietscht.

Cañas de corte europeo nunca fallan. Mucho mejor que las legere normales. Lo único que me pasa es que bajan bastante la afinación, pero yo son las que uso.
