Is the hanging bracket metal or plastic

The bracket is made from plastic.

We had temps below freezing and it held up fine. There was no water in it. It is possible it would not hold up if there was water.

What is the dimesnsion at the base, I see it is tapered.

The base is 2-1/2 inches by 1 inch, and the opening at the top is 2-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches.

Could this survive a hurricane?

IT could if bracket is attached properly to at least a 4" Post or Board that has been properly secured to withstand winds in excess of the hurricane speed
