Marcio Local stands at the crossroads of two great traditions in modern Brazilian music, with one foot in Samba, and the other in soul. Marcio has discovered ways to combine these two traditions to forge new variations of samba-soul by exploring the ever expanding modern soundscape of Rio.

Dont pass this one up
I'll keep this short. I came upon this CD by accident, browsing in a second hand CD shop and took a chance knowing nothing about Marcio Local (the cover looked interesting, and it said 'samba' and 'soul' in the title, so how wrong could I get). It turned out, not at all.I was amazed at how soulful and funky it sounded. It 'flows' with rhythm as only Jorge Ben could in those 60's and 70's albums of his. If you know Jorge Ben's music in his prime, then it is no exagerration to say, this come very close to standing up to them. Now all I want is to wait for his next one to come out!(This is out on Luaka Bop, David Byrne's lable, and you can be sure they know when they are on to something good!)
