The Quiet Music of Gently Falling Snow : Jackie Morris, Jackie Morris: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: What a beautiful book - I discovered a poetry book she had illustrated, thus is a few years ago now, but it comforts me not just the classic poems but smoothing my hand over the illustrations. This book reaches the same spot, her illustrations are beautifully drawn and tell stories just by themselves as the people and animals go on their journeys. And in this book she has told stories from her own illustrations and they are just as beautiful, simple yet complex. Personally I think they are for adults to bring comfort. I do enjoy folk lore from all over the world and I do like them with pictures....so this does tick the right boxes for me. Thank you, it is a pleasure. Review: Superb magical 🎶 book - I already have purchased two of The lost Words books which I love. However this surpasses it all for me. The illustrations are mind blowing and the words even the title is pure magical poetry. The author has a magical brush and magical words. Every adult who wants to escape from this harsh world should buy this book and indulge yourself and escape to Jackie’s magical world. 🌍

Magical
Picture books are not just for children! This beautiful book with its glorious cover illustration and enigmatic title just draws you in. I was familiar with some of Jackie Morris's work but not with this glorious work of the imagination. I was not disappointed. The introduction explaining how the book came about was particularly interesting and invites the reader to interact with the book in their own way and not to consider the text as a given. Having said picture books are not just for children I 'm sure many teachers would be just itching to use individual illustrations as stimulus for creative work

Jackie Morris Strikes the right note
This is a fabulous book. It tells understated stories while illuminating their meaning through exquisite illustrations. Once again Jackie Morris engages her readers with magical charm and warm mythical tales. There are beasts aplenty, look at the set of the lions head, look at the sense of speed given to sleek hares or running dogs look at the energy there mustered. Look at the stride of the angel in The City of Music. Look for minute details of instruments and shoes. The illustrations have worldwide appeal.and what links them all is music and storytelling through music. Music is harmony and love, it is binding and freeing, it is contentment and familiarity. Its absence is the silence of the least desirable sort. above all it is humanising.

Delightful , seductive , charming and beautifully illustrated
I love this book and also sent a copy to my daughter-in-law . She loves it as much as me. A very special book to give to a person who loves the charm of folktales reset in an original format . The illustrations are beautiful and intriguing and the prose is lyrical , engaging and magical.

Beautiful book! Amazing artwork!
I really loved this book! The artwork is amazing. The only downside is that I thought the paper should have been of better quality but overall I am happy with purchase. A book to lose yourself in!

What a beautiful, peace-evoking, exquisitely illustrated book! Dream-like, full of wonder, otherworldly: this book is a series of fairytales that refresh the spirit. The tales began with the mystery-filled artwork of Jackie Morris, paintings that had, in her words, unwritten narratives. Writes Morris in her Introduction: "Sometimes people would ask me if there was a story behind a piece of work, and what it was. I would reply, 'you tell me.'" This book provides some narratives for her dream-like paintings. The tales are simple: musicians and music-lovers embark on journeys that bring them together that they might share the love and magic that music exerts on human (and sometimes animal!) lives. They move through snowy landscapes, accompanied by their horses and hounds, bears and tigers, owls, foxes, rabbits, and winged cats. Their carts and carriages and pavilions are festooned with ribbons; there are ships and castles and ships like castles. The prose itself is full of word music, murmurous as running water, evocative as wind. In our cacophonous, confusing, over-busy world full of alarms and disconnection, this book is a vision and a refuge.

Any illustrations of Jacqui Morris are worth having but the paper quality of these are disappointingly very poor, so I would not send them to anyone. I'm just using the illustrations for craft activities.

A magical book of gentle stories honoring those with music in their hearts. Both animals and people live in a dream-like reverie filled with both sadness and joy; rich with symbolism. Lessons are learned, dreams are fulfilled. The illustrations are exquisite. I highly recommend this book for the child in you. Excellent quality all around.

For over a decade artist/writer Jackie Morris painted a Christmas card for the Musicians Benevolent Society, a UK charity to benefit musicians. One day, she was looking at the collection of cards she had designed for them and a story happened. This wonderful book is the result. The illustrations are wonderfully whimsical, wonderfully intricate and colorful. The illustrations alone are worth the price of the book. But, the story turns them into something magical. This books is a wonderful refuge from the brash, loud, broken world. When you need some peace, quiet, and and a place to catch your breath, you'll find it between the covers of this most excellent book.
