SkywatchEole-Meteos portable anemometer

I am not a meteorologist, but we do get some ferocious winds from time to time in my home area, and for some while I’ve thought it would be interesting to know just how much bombardment we actually have to survive when things go kinetic. Ironically, this anemometer arrived on the eve of a forecasted big storm, so I was quite excited to put it through its paces so soon. Needless to say, it was elsewhere that got the brunt of the weather, although I did record a freak gust of – well, it was only 25.1 mph, but never mind, at least this neat little device did its job!I am delighted with the Eole. I knew at the outset that it was only the basic model in the range, so doesn’t do temperatures, wind-chill, or humidity. Those extras, although tempting to have, would have been an unnecessary extravagance for me when all I really wanted was a wind speed detector of good quality. The solid device is easy to hold (firmly) in the hand, the readings are clear and comprehensive, and the built-in illumination is just the job for poor light conditions. The tripod fitting is a definite asset for long duration settings, and very usefully it seems to be fully waterproof. Perhaps the most convenient feature of all is that one doesn’t have to bother about which direction the wind’s coming from when using it. A bonus is that it can read wind speeds considerably in excess of what I’m ever likely to experience; the notion of such a generous safety factor being comforting, if a bit scary!

Bought a s a present for a structural engineer who inspects scaffolding. Very useful I gather for saying Yes or No to crews putting up scaffolding on windy days!. Seems good quality and accurate.
