Excellent examination of third wave feminist magazines.
I haven't written a review in a long time. Been busy with my own projects.I found out about this book by accident. I was looking for an old issue of Venus Zine and this book popped up.I read the book in one sitting. I was a fan of all the third wave magazines analyzed in the book such as Hues, Venus Zine(their name was just Venus, but had to change it to Venus Zine due to a another publication called Venus as well), Bust, Bitch and rockrgrl.I also liked the womanist tone of the book especially the truth telling the author does about some of the covert racism that happens in feminist spaces one would not easily realize. I do have to say that Bust magazine has taken the criticism seriously from readers and changed the look and feel of the magazine to be more inclusive to women of color. Their covers now (starting in 2017) have a equal amount of white women and women of color in their yearly 6 issues. Hopefully they can work on having more trans women on their covers. Laverne Cox is still the only one.Reading this made me sad that so many magazines have gone under. I'm not just talking about feminist publications, but also music magazines/zines like Option, Spin, Melody Maker, Flipside, Filter etc.Thank you ,S.
