Why would a person need this?

I needed this because I had mono years ago and never let myself recover correctly, instead of taking weeks off from work, I took days. Then I had three kids, none of which slept well. My adrenals were depleted and drained. I never had energy or felt awake and felt sick and dizzy all the time. I took this in the morning for several months, till my hands started twitching and then stopped and I feel pretty good now

Is it adrenal cortex only?

This is a straight glandular product make only of bovine adrenal. Nothing else. No preservatives.

Can this cause insomnia?

This product never kept me up at night. However I would always take it in the morning. If you like to have a better product that will help with more energy production during the day you might want to try the Enzyme Process Adrenucleo product. It's much better.

What's the source of gelatin?

The adrenal source is bovine, the gelatin does not say on the bottle.
