My favorite of the Current 'Super' series
Of all of the new 52 super book, Superman, Action Comics and Superboy. I was surprised that Supergirl would be my favorite series but the books seem to have an X factor that's a little missing from the others. Of all the the new series this one is getting better as it goes along. This volume crosses over with the other 'Super' books for the H'El on Earth series. Seeing our heroine taken in my another Krytonian survivor promising the return of Kypton without revealing what this will mean for Earth. We also see Supergirl meet Powergirl for the 1st time in the new 52. (her older self from a alt universe.... thats comics for you). The stories tumbling along at a decent pace and the writing breaks up the heroics and drama with some genuine comedic moments giving this book some real charm. I'd recommend reading from book 1 and 2 before this volume as the story lines and characters introduced in previous volumes feature again here. The costume of Supergirl is a little awkward in todays age but the books to acknowledge this somewhat.Overall I would highly recommend this series as one you might otherwise miss in favour of the more A-list heroes.

Let Down by Greed
Superman: H'el On Earth TP (The New 52) Chances arre if you're looking at this item you have already purchased Volumes 1 & 2, whilst this TPB has some excellent writing along with superb drawing and colouring it is badly let down by poor editing hence the 3/5 rating., Supergirl #13 continues the story from Volume 2 with Simon Tycho trying to lay claim to Kara and would IMHO been more appropriate included in that edition, Supergirl #14-20 deals with a crossover event called H'el On Earth, the problem is that the Superman and Superboy parts of the story are not included and so you only get half the story with important events being mentioned but not shown and this is very frustrating. All in all this is a great comic and well worth getting but should be purchased along with H'el on Earth.

I should not say this as I am 67 but enjoyed this book, use to get these books and comic's as a young child, it takes you back when you could sit on the floor cross legged and read your comic book, I now have a bed in my den for reading lol can no longer sit cross legged

Girl, Interrupted
The story running through issues #13-20 of DC Comics' New 52 series of Supergirl is collected as Supergirl Volume 3: Sanctuary TP (The New 52) (Supergirl (DC Comics)) . This is an excellently illustrated and scripted series, but unfortunately a big chunk is missing due to the `H'el on Earth' crossover which takes place in the middle of it. You really need to read Superman: H'El on Earth HC (The New 52) (Superman (DC Comics)) before this volume. The first issue of this collection (#13) sees Kara bonding with Sanctuary, the `Fortress of Solitude' she has discovered on the ocean floor at the end of the previous volume. Simon Tycho, her very own Lex Luthor id also there, and he gets to bond with it also, but not in the same way... Then it is straight into `H'el on Earth' for four issues (#14-17). These Supergirl segments are interesting enough on their own, but unless you have read the full story, you are not going to get the full picture - which is a traveller from Old Krypton who wants to take Kara and himself back in time to stop the destruction of the planet. What you don't see here is Kara being romanced by him into joining him on his quest, which will require the destruction of Earth to fuel the time machine. You also don't get to see the finale which leaves Kara with Kryptonite poisoning, which in issue #18 we see her being treated for by Doctor Veritas of the Bock. She is also being monitored by Lex Luthor and his band of advisors. We also get to see Karen Starr (Power Girl) starting to feel the effects of the Kryptonite poisoning. The subsequent issues see the two Kryptonian girls meeting, bonding, beating up one of Luthor's supervillains, and then having a bit of trouble with Sanctuary, which decides that one of the two is a clone and must be destroyed... But, and most importantly, Power Girl gets a new costume courtesy of Kara's wardrobe in Sanctuary. THAT costume..."I think you're too old to wear that."The new/old costume went a long way to keeping this a four-star volume, but it is still an excellently written and illustrated collection, despite the interruption, and Supergirl is ploughing her own way in this New 52 Universe in a new and original way.
