Sturdy with good paper
I like this sketchbook. Yes it has a hessian cover and it does stain a bit easily but I do appreciate that it's recycled as I wish more art materials were. The pages are a slightly off white in a nice way, and they are thick. I've used watercolours in them and watercolour pencils and ink brush pens, all of which do not go thru to the other side, including my watercolour brush pens. Paper feels like 170-200gsm so definitely good for a sketchbook. It's well made and well bound but there is no serrations for taking g out paper. Unfortunately it wont lay flat when opened out and you can't bend it over on itself as the spine is chunky/strong. All in all, I'd recommend it as a sturdy and durable, art friendly sketchbook. I have a spiral bound one I use for outdoor and travel sketching as I can fold it over on itself to draw, and I'm using this one for indoors as the papers good enuff to get your gouache out etc, and probably light acrylics. I hope my purchase is another voice for more recycled goods as there is nothing wrong with the quality at all and it's a great price for such thick paper.

Brilliant sketchbook and better for the environment
I have been using this Artway Enviro sketchbook for the last few months and it is great - the cover is butch enough to survive the abuse of being knocked around in a bag and the general abuse of artists, and the binding hasn't parted ways unlike my lovely Seawhite A4 which I had to tape together after a year, the binding was so bad. Seems a lot of art materials are designed for hobbyists and dainty gentle types, not for artists who will switch media and abuse the materials as part of the process, loads of water and ink etc. and work in acrylic and collage. This seems to be built for actual artists. Paper is great - I have used Artway cartridge paper in the past and it is recycled but not beige or grey, it is a good white ivory colour like the Seawhite - and 170gsm it is thick enough not to bleed through if you use watercolour, ink and mixed media. It has a slight tooth. This can lay pretty flat, as well because of the binding, which if you are scanning is a big plus. Cons - minor but unlike the Seawhite the paper is smaller than A4, which is fine by me as it is easier to scan but I liked the size of the Seawhite pad.

Excellent quality and value for money
Love, love, love these journals. The paper is excellent quality, takes paint well, and it is pretty sturdy. The covers are really hard and extend well beyond the pages, thus protecting them. They are perfect for decorating, I painted mine with acrylics, and they also act as a firm surface when drawing on your lap. The fabric covered spine is flexible and paintable too. The texture of the cover a little rough, a bit like fine hessian, so would take glued items well too. However, leaving them as they are is also a great option as they look really stylish, yet immensely practical. Not to forget that the price represents excellent value. I will definitely be buying more of these to use as my art journals and travel journals.

Paper itself is great, but the cover isn’t!
The paper seems nice, could possibly take light watercolour washes which I love! It’s thick and sturdy- however please listen to the reviews about inconsistencies and flaws in the front cover. I don’t even know how the one I received passed inspection there is a big black strip staining the front! :( Not sure if it’s too petty to return over but I really loved the rugged look of the front cover on the pictures, so now if I keep it I’m going to have to cover it up. I’m quite upset actually, because there is also chips missing from the corners and sides. If you couldn’t care less about the front cover then it’s definitely worth it because the paper is lovely but be careful if you aren’t planning on covering it up 🙃 Edit: decided to go to return it, however I found that I could receive a reshipment of the item or a refund without return upon evidence of damage, great customer service! Even though I was disappointed, the company and what they stand for seems great so it’s a solid 4 starts for me

Best sketchbook I've ever bought
Hands down the best sketchbook I've bought for quite some time, usually I just buy paper I like and make my own but that comes with it's own issues, prior to that I was spending considerable money on other branded sketchbooks. A friend had one of these in A5 portrait and I was happy with the quality so I purchased the A4 Landscape as I work across double pages. Working mainly with inks and some light watercolour I found the pages extremely resistant to bleeding, though water will likely wrinkle the other side slightly if you use it heavily. The pages overall are beautifully smooth but not to the point where it feels like you're sketching on glass. A slight off white colour is also appreciated. They open flat aswell which suits my style of working across the 2 sides for panoramic images. I love the cover it feels rustic and robust and has already taken alot of bumps and knocks and it's still going strong. ArtWay has done a great job with this. I highly recommend it and I will continue to use these for the foreseeable future.

Good quality paper
A breath of fresh air. I've experienced the gradual decline in the quality/properties of paper in A5 sketchbooks over the last few years. I've been searching for a robust, reliable field product that takes media and water. At last, this one fits the bill and I'm very happy with it. Takes water-colour with good spread. Very little bleed or ghosting. Paper warps a little but well within expectations. A lovely find. Will be ordering more if available. Recommended.

The paper was smooth (not too smooth), and it was almost perfectly white. Personally I like to decorate my sketchbooks, that was easy with this one
