Seamlessly turns your wireless lavs into wired xlr mics.
I picked up the VXLR+ to adapt a pretty standard lav mic (3.5mm TRS connection) to my XLR interface for recording some ADR for a film produced locally, that was on a super tight budget. I didn't really know what to expect, as I was using this device rather than a more expensive adapter made by the microphone manufacturer, but boy, was I pleasantly surprised. The lav connected to the NXLR easily, and screwed in just as it should, although it did have a tendency to work its way loose, so keeping it tightened up between talent was necessary, but this was a small price to pay for the amount of money it saved me, not having to buy a wireless pack and receiver station. The adapter then easily connected to my interface via XLR, and once the phantom power was turned on, I had a crisp clear, and unwavering signal from the lav mic without any of the expensive wireless gear. It worked seamlessly, with no ground hum, no his, and no phantom fry... The active circuitry that converts the 48V phantom power down to the ~4V plug-in power is brilliantly designed, and keeps your lav from being cooked... It's actual regulation, not just dropping voltage, so you get a clean signal and your mics are safe. It gave me a full, clean signal with no coloration or RF weirdness. There's no added gain or noticeable impedance mismatch. It's basically invisible, which is what you want. The metal housing makes the dongle feel rugged, and like it's not going to shatter if you drop it. The TRS jack is snug with no wobble, no signal drop-outs even with older lavs that have seen their long days of use. Especially at the price, this is not just for pro-audio people, but if you're using lav mics for interviews or shoots and want better than DSLR preamps, the VXLR+ lets you route your lavs into Zoom devices, MixPres, or full-sized interfaces easily and quickly, and it's light enough to clip on the belt of your talent without stacking adapters like Jenga blocks. Whether you're doing location ADR on a budget, or you run a first-class recording studio, the VXLR+ is an absolute must-have (and at the price, you could probably stand to have 3-4 on hand, just in case)! I highly recommend this little power-house.

Works great for all my trs connections. So much i own 3 of them.
I cannot express how thrilled I am with the Rode VXLR Plus XLR to 3.5mm Transforming Adapter. This little device has completely transformed my audio setup and made my recording process so much smoother. The build quality of this adapter is top-notch. It feels sturdy and durable, which gives me the confidence that it will last for a long time. When I received it, I noticed the absence of any annoying 60-cycle hum or hiss that I experienced with cheaper adapters. What surprised me the most was how transparent the audio quality remained. My microphone sounded just as pristine as when connected directly to the interface. The VXLR Plus provided the necessary voltage conversion for my unpowered mics and I didn't experience any issues with audio levels or distortion. It's an active adapter with internal circuitry that does its job superbly. Even though the price is slightly higher than some alternatives, I can confidently say that it's worth every penny. The peace of mind and reliable performance it offers are unmatched, making it a worthy investment. Overall, the Rode VXLR Plus XLR to 3.5mm Transforming Adapter has exceeded my expectations in every way. It has solved all my connectivity challenges and allowed me to use my favorite microphones with ease. If you want a reliable and high-quality solution for your audio needs, I highly recommend this fantastic adapter. Bravo, Rode!

Works perfectly. Highly recommended.
The adaptor works exactly as promised. I film with a Sony 4K camcorder with XLR inputs for sound. I use Sennheiser wireless microphones. I encountered a situation where there was radio and electrical interference with the wireless capability. I purchased the Rode VXLR so I could use the Sennheiser lavaliere microphones with a hard-wired XLR cable to work around the problem with the radio interference. While I could change the channel on the Sennheiser wireless system, I have been in situations where the radio interference occurred after a technical check and there was no time to try various channels. I needed to record immediately. In the future whenever possible I will use hard-wired XLR cables so I don't have to worry about interference. I like the Rode adapter for quality and for the clip so I can clip the adaptor to someone's belt or pocket. Highly recommended.

Microphone with 3.5 mm connector not working when plugged into pro audio interface? Buy this.
tl;dr this fixes condenser mics with 3.5 mm connectors connected to professional audio interfaces not producing a signal. It is cheap at $19, surprisingly well made, has a pretty low noise floor, and does not seem to color the sound. I have a Beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro headset and wanted to upgrade my audio setup. I went with a MOTU M2 audio interface but was surprised that the microphone didn't work when it previously worked plugged into my PC. This is because the headset uses a condenser microphone and requires 2 - 9 volts, what is sometimes called plug-in power (PiP). PiP on the microphone input is common on PCs, DSLR/mirrorless cameras, and mobile devices but not pro audio gear. In general, modern pro audio gear, and the M2 specifically, supplies either 0 V with phantom power off for dynamic microphones, line in, instrument pickups, etc. or 48 V with phantom power on for other types of microphones. Neither 0 V or 48 V will work with a mic that requires plug-in power; 0 V won't do anything at all and 48 V may damage a mic expecting the lower PiP voltage. This thing converts 12 - 48 V phantom power down to the 4 V required by the many models of condenser mics that typically have a 3.5 mm plug instead of an XLR male plug. Rode presumably makes it so that their VideoMic line can plug into pro audio gear, but it works just as well for any condenser mic that can use 4 V. It seems to be made of aluminum (which I thought surprising at $19) and overall well-made. The clip comes off so you can plug it into an interface easier. The 3.5 mm jack does not have any play in it. I don't have another XLR mic to compare it to but the noise floor seems to be the same as when I'm plugged into my PC directly. I can't hear it when recording my voice via the M2 or via the PC sound card. One thing about noise though: almost all microphones with 3.5 mm connectors are unbalanced and are far more prone to interference and electrical noise than their balanced cousins with XLR connectors. If you get weird noises like humming, buzzing, things that almost sound like morse code, etc., it could be the cables picking up interference from virtually any radiation source nearby (wifi, cellular, microwaves, power supplies, almost anything that uses electricity). Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to use a cable with better shielding but, in general, pro audio tends to use balanced connections specifically for that kind of noise rejection.

Had to repair one right out of the 'bag'
I bought two of these, and they sound great ! though, i had to immediatly 'repair' one of the units.... Inside, 2 of the wires going from the xlr connector to the c.b. were 'pinch shorted' between the barrel and the 'butterfly' grouinding spring... both of the unit i recieved were indeed in sealed bags... so this was most likely an assembly failure, and probably a 'one off' problem... but now a days, i can't stress enough 'test test test' before putting snything into service !!!! these were going to be connected to an Avalon signature series preamp, but i erred on caution, and chose to test on another, more 'forgiving' preamp, and thus found this problem... my units now work just fine, including on the signatures.... but man that would have been a REALLY bad situation!!! BUT, they sound perfect, very low noise, balanced output signal with zero 'offset', and stable p-i-p voltage to mics.. test test test folks

Well-Built, Useful Adapter
Works exactly as advertised, it safely converts 48V phantom power to Plug-in power. This is a very useful tool for a niche application. The all-metal build is durable and well-built. The included clip is useful and easily removed if it gets in the way. The adapter is acoustically transparent, it does not color the sound or cause any unwanted noise.

Works! Powers an AntLion ModMic connected to a pro mixer with 48v phantom power...
I got this to connect an Antlion ModMic, which requires a nominal 5v to operate or a maximum of 12v, to a Yamaha MG12 mixer, which can only supply 48v of phantom power. Works perfectly for me. They include a belt clip with this item, which wraps around the constriction near the middle of the housing. I had to remove the clip to plug the adapter into the mixer because the clip is not flush with the tip of the XLR connector, which does not make a whole lot of sense, but I do not need the clip. I leave the gain setting turned down to the dash on the dial - sort of the default setting I guess. I start hearing a little distortion and noise with high gain, even without going so high it starts clipping. It’s not so much that it sounds bad, but more that it picks up too much environment noise. Sounds amazing at the dashed gain level, though, with fader at nominal or 0 level. Getting really good results with this configuration. Super happy!

Expensive but useful
Does what it’s supposed to do. Tried it directly plugged to the recorder with a 3m mini jack cable, no interference, no buzzing noise, just perfect. The clip is a nice touch.

Worth the additional cost - RØDE VXLRVXLR+ Minijack
BUY NICE OR BUY TWICE. In the audio/visual world whether 'prosumer' or commercial, there are items worth investing in Llast and dont date. This adaptor is one of them. As an Australian, I buy Australian + quality whenever I can and the RØDE VXLRVXLR+ Minijack doesnt disappoint. I was impressed by the solid, weightiness of this item which imparts a feeling of quality and the clip-accessory it ships with is practical and a nice touch. It works great with xlr audio recorders (mine a Zoom H8) where you can lower the power output/gain with lavalier mics which are the most portable and cost-effective option for multi-person podcasting and travel setup. I bought two of these so far and will probably buy another few in early 2021. Great bang for buck. 5-star.
