Krups F DK4 51 - sandwich makers (Black)

I bought this to replace my Waring I bought based on reviews here. It broke after a year. It tended to burn the toasties and was a complete swine to try to clean. By contrast this Krups seems utterly amazing. It toasts to perfection and with no burning: toasties look and taste great. It warms up very rapidly and is very simple to use. It wipes clean: fantastic. It also looks amazing I think. However, although it looks like it's made of metal the body is actually plastic. I was rather miffed that mine came with a European plug: asking the company to put a UK plug or adaptor on it was met with a decisive 'no'. That was my original review. However, after ten months the central clasp that secures the two toasting sides snapped. I discovered that the whole clasp that carries the pressure is made of plastic not metal! I think it was because I was only using one side of the toaster so the pressure was uneven. However, that still should not have happened and highlights a major design defect. This machine is not marketed in the UK but I sent photos to Krups UK and asked them to pass on to their German parent company. What they did was to collect my old machine and send me a new machine even though I don't think they had any legal responsibility to do so as the machine was purchased from abroad. So full marks for Krups UK service but no marks for this unit any more. So be warned.

Simply the best sandwich toaster I have owned - it's the right size for a standard UK sliced loaf, whilst the trays don't come out - they are very easy to clean, produces the best toasted sandwiches. it looks stylish, it's not messy like others - it did arrive fitted with a euro plug - not an issue to replace or use adapter

Looks good and feels substantial and very easy to clean as there are no gaps. A gift for my son in law. i warned him about the dodgy catch that breaks easily that other reviews had mentioned and he pointed out that you have to PUSH it to release the lid rather than pull it which is more instinctive.

Battleship construction, delivered from Germany with a UK 3 pin adapter. Works well, reasonably deep fill, easy to clean. Excellent product

Bought this about two years ago and only used a handful of times. Was generally happy with it until yesterday when the front bit with the lights snapped off the rest of the body when I put a bit of pressure on it (closing the lid, admittedly quite hard). The plastic sheared in a way I really didn't expect, bit disappointed it hasn't held up as this was an expensive treat at the time. Maybe it was me being ham fisted, or maybe the plastic weakened because of the heat and time. Either way, feel let down by a big name like Krups.
