Will this heater work for a 450 gal tank to keep water from freezing?

Most likely NOT, Is the tank indoors or outdoors? you will need at least a 800watt element, make sure yo have a thermostat to control the temp...

I will be connecting this directly to my solar panel. My solar panel puts out 12-21 volts. Will 21v damage the element?

The heater is actually two twelve volt elements connected in parallel by factory jumpers. Much of the time, this load would pull down a 300 watt panel to very low voltage resulting in poor heating. You will probably find the higher voltage and lower amps of putting the elements in series (change the factory jumpers) across your panel yields better results (heating) and solves the possibility of damaging the elements. The heater then becomes 24 V and 300 W.

What is the resistance of the element aka how many ohms is it

The element which is made of sus304 has 0.48 ohms. Thank you

12 volt 300 watt will take a long time to heat up i use a 48 volt 1000 watt element with batterys

Works.. Just abit more then 500 watts

Works but it isn't 500 watts. Meter rates it at around 640 watts. It works just fine but I wasn't expecting the extra 140 watts on my solar system.. Would buy again
