Sturdy, stainless steel entry-level pressure cooker
Sturdy, good quality pressure cooker. It's the first one that I have ever bought. It arrived promptly with the packaging intact. It is easy to use and clean but note that it is not to be cleaned in a dishwasher. It is very effective in terms of cooking beans / chickpeas in no time. There are two things that could be improved somewhat. 1. The plastic knob on the lid that controls the amount of pressure in the pot is a bit flimsy and has fallen off a few times. It feels like it's made of cheap plastic. It's easy to put back on in any case and easy to clean as a separate part. 2. The plastic / silicone seal for the lid also feels a little insubstantial. This is my first pressure cooker so I don't have a lot to compare it to. The rest of the pot is excellent and very sturdy. I was concerned about the base that has an aluminium component but I think that the aluminium is encapsulated in steel so that aluminium does not come into contact with your food. The instruction manual is very comprehensive and useful. There is a strange smell when using the pot for the first time and the manual does recommend boiling some water in it first. After that, the smell does go and food tastes brilliant! Some steam can escape using the highest pressure setting for the pot but I think this may be normal. I would definitely recommend this product as an entry level pressure cooker that was good value for money and does the job.

Simple, safe and efficient
We have been using a pressure cooker for just about everything we cook for 40 years. As there are only two people in the house mostly now we decided we needed a 3litre PC to supplement our 5litre PC and we could get rid of our ancient 7litre PC. We decided on a trivet/steamer basket support type. The stainless steel PC would be easier to clean. It took a few uses to get familiar with its foibles and subtle uses compared to our existing one. Our main use is for vegetable cooking. It is even more efficient if you put in hot water to start with. I was surprised how quickly it came to pressure - indicated by the red pressure button popping up. I was even more surprised how little heat was needed to maintain the pressure especially at the lower pressure setting. We heat it on the largest gas ring then move it to either the medium or smallest ring set at the lowest gas setting. Experience (trial & error) is needed for gauging the cooking time for how you like your vegetables; whether "soft" or with "some bite". There is some guidance in the instructions if you are new to PC cooking. Persevere if you are new, in time you'll wonder how you ever did without one We cool it under cold running water rather than venting or letting it cool down at room temperature as the cooking process continues during pressure reduction. There are safety warnings in the instructions. READ THEM. The pressure relief valve does vent steam if the heat supplied is too great during the cooking process. Adjust this appropriately for your cooker rings. Common sense says don't put your head over the safety valve. If you want to reduce your energy use for cooking then a Pressure Cooker will help considerably. This Tower model will certainly help. I fully recommend this model for efficiency and value for money.

Nice quality and cooks quite fast..👍🏻
I bought this pressure cooke 2 weeks ago and cooks quite fast my mother used very often and is robust in general is a very good product the only thing that I'm disappointing with the fact that is very difficult to find the spare parts anywhere I mean for example sealing ring or the steam pipe.

Durable, good quality
Have used this product for at least 3 years now. Still working like the day it was bought, saves me a lot of cooking time. It is a must have for every kitchen.

Every home should have one of these with the food and fuel
Totally impressed with this cooker. Use it regularly to cook tougher cuts of meat in a third of the usual time. All nutrients and flavours held inside the cooker and fuel costs hugely reduced. Simple to use and not expensive.

Pointless and a waste of energy
The first pan I received leaked steam and fluid from the handle - I waited a ridiculously long time for customer services to respond, so long, that I began to worry that I wouldn't be in time to return it to Amazon. A fortnight later, after a second email, a lackadaisical Tower customer services assistant gave that advice. Duly returned, the replacement pan wasn't much better. The pan doesn't get up to pressure for twenty to twenty-five minutes - fifteen to twenty if boiling water is put into a preheated pan, using the highest gas setting on my hob. The pressure valve rattles but it doesn't engage, however if jiggled carefully (risking being scalded by the steam) at this point, it pops up and the steam squeals out of the plastic pressure setting valve. Bearing in mind that the pan has been on maximum heat for twenty-five minutes before it is turned down to a lower gas setting for the "cooking time" this is pointless and a waste of energy. I wouldn't run a stew pot for twenty-five minutes at maximum before starting the cooking time. The replacement pan leaks steam and fluid from the handle although not quite as bad as the first pan, regardless of how much fluid is in the pan. Obviously with this design/manufacturing flaw I cannot cook with the water level above 50% let alone the 75% maximum suggested by Tower. So, more expensive to use than an ordinary stainless steel cooking pan, potentially dangerous, shoddy manufacturing, and poor customer support. The ten year warranty is pointless if customer services aren't interested - buy from a reputable company as Tower sells inferior products (two dodgy pans in a row) and offers little support. On a final note, this is a pressure cooker where for safety reasons alone the quality control should be considerably higher than that required for a standard cooking pan, obviously this is lacking in Tower's manufacturing department.

I use it every day
This is a review of the Tower T80244 6L/22cm Pressure Cooker. I have had the smaller Tower 3L pressure cooker for a couple of years but sometimes find that it is too small so was pleased to see this 6litre model on offer. I observe that this 6 litre version does take a little longer to get upto pressure and come down from pressure than the 3 litre variant. I use this mainly for cooking vegetables. I used to use the microwave and feel that the vegetables taste better when prepared in the pressure cooker. I also make soups, have cooked chicken and also have prepared brown rice or lentils from their dried form. I have used, and know, that there are better pressure cookers out there but these can cost a multiple of the price that these Tower pressure cookers are sold for and are not a multiple of times better. Some of the other cookers have a gauge that rises and I find that they are easier to see how much pressure is in the cooker than this Tower pressure cooker but after a while I have got used to this pressure cooker and feel that I can achieve the same result as from the more expensive ones. The product does come with a basic guide for how long to cook things for but I find myself looking on the Internet. Generally cooking times are given for when the cooker is upto pressure and are generally about a third of normal cooking time. You also need to allow a minute or so after cooking to de-pressure the pressure cooker(by turning the dial to the steam release setting) but must note also, that some things you have to let the pressure drop naturally(slowly) without releasing the pressure.(somethings become frothy and can spout like a fountain if you try to release the pressure using the regulator release setting - the guidebook, page 12 shows which products this applies to and how to slowly reduce the pressure) Regarding the time taken to get upto pressure, I used to have a gas hob and this would take maybe 5 minutes. I have recently changed to an induction hob and this pressure cooker works really well on and now takes less than a couple of minutes to bring the cooker upto pressure if you are steaming and maybe a little longer for other forms of cooking. The small guidebook that the product comes with gives basic safety guidance which is important to read first and it advises that, "The cooking time begins directly as the heat is turned down, once the red pressure indicator valve rises and the pressure cooker begins to hiss to release steam." What I do is set the pressure cooker at pressure level 1 and I stay with the pressure cooker as it is heating up and a short while after the red valve has risen you can hear that the steam starts to be released from the middle of the circular dial that you set the pressure with. At that point I set the timer for the cooking and also increase the pressure cooker upto pressure 2(If required) and then bring the hob heat down to the level required to maintain pressure which on my induction hob is about 6 of 9 heat levels. You will need to experiment with your hob but I find with this that I can then leave the pressure cooker to maintain the pressure and get on with other preparation. This is really good pan too. If you make a soup, you can start using the pressure cooker to fry your onions before adding the other ingredients/stock and bringing upto pressure before cooking at pressure for 6-7 minutes. You can also register the product for a 10 year guarantee online too. I feel that this is a substantial product and having had the smaller 3 litre version for a couple of years, feel that other than perhaps a new seal, the product is likely to still be working well and in use after 10 years.

Really impressed with this! Esp audible signals and low energy input.
I have previously owned an Instant Pot and returned it. For me, this is so much better. The main difference is being able to put it under the cold tap for those times when you might worry about liquid spurting through valve release or clogging the valve with starch. We do use the valve release too when appropriate. We wanted to see how much we would use this before adding a larger pot, but having made the too large mistake with the Instant Pot, this small size is great for small jobs. Soften the skin on tough veg for easy peeling. Steam some 'boiled eggs' for easy peeling. Pasta cooked in its sauce in half the pasta cook time. Pot comes to pressure in less time than boiling a full kettle. Important to get the right size to realise the time savings. I've also previously owned a Zwilling stovetop pressure cooker with ring indicators and returned it after reading Catherine Phipps advice on how a pressure cooker should behave. This is so much better, super easy to place the sealing ring, to close the lid etc, cleaning... nothing fiddly. I feel like my doddery old dad could use this safely. It comes to pressure in no time and pressure is maintained with minimal heat, much less than the expensive Stovetop model I returned. Many models now have indicator rings which IMO is only useful if you're constantly watching your pot. With this cooker, there's a rush of steam when it reaches pressure and a whisper of steam while pressure is maintained. Manual said you've set temp too low if it goes too quiet or too loud if too high. I thought that seemed vague but actually in practice it's very easy to grasp. The manual is short but explains the important stuff well. For success, you do really need to pay attention to using it properly. In particular, get all the limescale off the base as not doing this will cause food to stick and burn. I think audible signals are so much better for a cook continuing with their kitchen tasks. But if hearing impaired or noisy kitchen, you could work with observing the steam flow. Also worth noting that some cookers at this price point don't include a trivet and basket which this one does. Tower are also good for spares, ie you will need a new sealing ring periodically. I think the only benefit to an electric cooker is the timer (get an egg timer) and the keep warm function. But honestly keeping the stovetop pot sealed will keep the contents hot for quite a while and you can easily reheat on your stove for a later diner. I personally don't think electric pressure cookers are worth the countertop space and they aren't used as often as can be if stored in a cupboard. If you were thinking of getting one, get this instead.
