Large Hexagonal Wooden Sandpit (With Lid)

Happy to find a non-plastic sandpit optionThis is large - we had to buy quite a bit of sand - but great for my 5 year older daughter tooAssembly not very easy but a fun task for the familyI wanted one with a lid but actually this came with an elasticated cover sheet anyway so wooden lid not really needed, also the wooden lid isn’t waterproof without the cover sheet, so could have done without wooden lid. Perhaps more intended if you want to be able to sit / play on it with lid onSandpit itself is good. We used a staple gun to fix the bottom sheet to the sides really well, useful if you have one - expect this will make it last much longer

I honestly wouldn't recommend this.It's not well made. There is no bottom to it so any sign of rain and the sand gets drenched really quickly. My daughter has managed to play in it once so far this summer. Granted it rained a lot but even with the lid and the cover on it, because there is no bottom to it, the water just gets underneath and soaks in through the fabric lining. As a result the sand has to be left to dry before it's usable which doesn't happen quickly and then it rains again and the process starts again.On top of that because the fabric isn't curt to fit and isn't creating any sort of seal, bugs are getting in and I'm constantly pulling poo out of it. You might not be able to see well in the photo but that's what it's showing.I'll be fitting some plywood to the bottom and if I don't see improvement, throwing it in the tip.

Delivery was with Dhl and was messaged a time slot which was great. Very surprise by the size of the sand pit, fits both my 4 year old and 7 year old comfortably. Didn’t take long to put together, very clear instructions. The lid comes pre assembled which was nice bonus with an additional waterproof cover.

The hexagonal pit has a nice browny orange colour and looks like a feature in the garden.It needs a base though, made from wood, to keep it off the very soggy ground during rainy seasons.My pit had two holes in one of the pieces of wood missing. Fortunately my husband is good at drilling holes!!I would have prefered a waterproof top without the two holes in the top, as I like to keep the sand as dry as possible. Sand starts to smell if it is kept wet for too long and it is expensive to replace.I think the top would break if someone stood on it or it would collaps onto the sand.( I didn't try to stand on it, I wouldn't want to break it.)

If you were being generous, you would describe this item as a "build your own sandpit kit". It's reasonable nowadays to expect some degree of self assembly, but in this case what you're buying is essentially a couple of boxes of planks and a bag of screws. The planks don't even comprise the whole of each sandbox side. The return policy of the seller doesn't meet Amazon's standards, the send the two boxes under a 1 item label, and don't provide sufficient labels for Royal Mail to accept their return QR code.

The instructions are clear. And the sandpit is decent quality and a good size. I recommend.However, you really need two people to assemble, one to hold the pieces together while the other person screws (unless you have small clamps). If you don't have an electric screwdriver, I'd borrow one. Overall it was easy enough to assemble with two people.

My son-in-law put the sand pit together, which needed a bit of DIY know-how, and it looks terrific, nice and sturdy and a good depth. Rim seat good too. Room for several children. We decided to put a double layer of thick plastic underneath before filling it with sand, to prevent damage to the cloth lining. Instructions say 6-8 bags of play-sand of 25kg each, but we didn't know that before buying it. We'd provided 6 bags, which seems a good amount, and will get more if needed.

Had this almost a year now and happy with it. Only room for one child and takes lots of bags of sand to fill, but can’t fault it in craftsman ship. Lasted the winter no problem 👍
