Ignore Spirit1's review as they're not using it correctly. You only need to press gently on the food (in my case Quiche) which leaves an indentation to mark out the equal portions. If I use it for a pie, which won't take indentations so easily, I cut through the pastry with a small serrated knife using the divider as a guide and then use a larger knife to complete the slicing.

Plastic and was a little confused as to how to use it
The ring in the middle is irritating and leaves a mark on the cake. Why didn't it have the size cutter right to the point? Probably the worst buy I have made!
