Ice Game = Changed. Worth Every Penny!
This GE nugget ice maker is absolutely amazing. It cranks out a solid amount of ice and does it quickly—fast enough to keep up even during get-togethers when everyone’s going back for refills. I always have ice ready, no stress. The side water tank is generously sized, so I’m not constantly running back and forth to refill it. And it looks great on the countertop—sleek, with a soft blue light that you can turn on or off depending on the vibe.I snagged mine on sale, so the value was even better, but after 7 months of daily use, I can honestly say it’s worth full price. It’s an investment, sure—but like any good appliance, you get what you pay for. If you love nugget ice, this machine is the real deal. Highly recommend!

Do NOT buy this ice maker
This is my second Opal ice maker, mostly because we love this type of ice. The first one, an Opal 1.0 with side tank, died after only 18 months. Given the price that is waaayyyy too soon. I cleaned it weekly and took great care of it so it should have lasted much longer. After some anguish I decided to but the Opal 2.0 with side tank and give it another try. But this time, I bough the warranty with it on Amazon. Once it arrived I was delighted as the ice maker worked better than the older version and made great ice.A month-and-a-half in, the "Add Water" light suddenly came on and the unit stopped working. Nothing I did would make it go away. I reached out to the warranty company who told me they woiuld do nothing because my unit should be under manufacturer's warranty. So I reached out to Opal support. After two weeks of back and forth emails asking me to try all sorts of things, the unit still isn't working. I had to demand that they replace it and only now find out the terms of the useless warranty. They will ship me a replacement unit once they place a $300 hold on my credit card which will remain until they receive the faulty unit back. And, since the unit is more than 30 days old, they will only replace it with a refurbished unit, not a new one.So, if I am lucky I will get a refurbished unit to replace my month-and-a-half old brand new one after tying up $300 on my credit card while the process plays out. This after spending nearly $800 on the unit and warranty.Buy this thing at your own risk - while it makes great ice, it is not well made and customer concern/support is non-existent.

Buy Once Cry Once - Best countertop ice maker around
I had looked at this and dismissed it due to the cost. After buying a "more affordable" ice maker that you could hear hammering away while it made ice, I broke down and bought this. The old adage "Buy once Cry once" is true here. This Opal ice maker makes copious amounts of ice, the reservoir is easy to fill and the drainage system on this ice makers makes it easy to clean and maintain. When you get this machine it seems like a real appliance, not some plasticky gimmick. The packaging is top notch, mine even was shipping with a plywood base inside the box to maintain shape and reduce deformation. When running, the machine is reasonable quiet the dropping of the ice is louder than the compressor. I regret buying a cheaper competitor and wish that I had put that cash toward this instead.

Amazing Ice❤️FYI on noise
Love it! I am going to address the noise first. So it is silent -when the ice container is full. When you remove ice from the ice bin it will make ice again until full so there is a small noise maybe like a small dishwasher sound to me. Infact my husband never noticed it until I pointed it out to him🤣. We have had it two days and it is wonderful. Our son had this one and we all used it at a family get together. So I wanted one and it's just 2 of us so it should do Amazing. Highly Recommend if you love this kind of ice- we call it Sonic Ice as we have Sonic's that use this ice in their drinks. Enjoy we sure are!

Don't waste your money!
I regret purchasing this item and should have returned it immediately. I took a chance because my wife and daughters love nugget ice, and I trusted the GE brand to deliver quality. Unfortunately, it was a mistake. From the start, setup was a nightmare. The machine was stuck in self-clean mode during the initial setup, which took a lot of effort to resolve. Once it started working, the ice maker did produce nugget ice as advertised, but it was extremely noisy from the beginning—and the noise only worsened over time.Maintenance was another hassle. Cleaning the machine was cumbersome and needed to be done frequently to keep it running. Then, just 14 months after purchase, the machine completely stopped making ice. The warranty only covered the first year, and GE's only solution was to send a repair technician—at my expense—costing hundreds of dollars. For such an expensive product, I expected better warranty support, but I was left disappointed. In frustration, I scrapped the GE machine and purchased a Frigidaire Gallery Nugget Ice Maker for a quarter of the price. The Frigidaire has been fantastic—it's quieter, easier to use, and even includes an onboard water tank.Bottom line: DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON GE! It’s disheartening to see how far the quality of their products has declined. Thomas Edison and J.P. Morgan must be rolling in their graves.

My savior!
Great nugget ice maker, our fridge ice maker went out, didn't want to replace fridge, fairly new. We were getting so tired of filling ice trays, we looked into counter ice top makers, and this one kept coming to top of list. Kinda pricey but diffently worth the money. Saw some complaints of noise made, but no issues with ours. Very glad the wife and I made this purchase! Update 6/30/24, no issues, we have use distilled water from the start and have not had any issues having to clean it. Use distilled water if you don't want to have to clean it often. When it needs to be cleaned, remove the ice tray, make sure resovuor is full with water, hit cleaning cycle, let it cycle one time then hold down the cleaning button 3 seconds. It will go back to making ice. That way you don't have to unplug drag to sink and drain. We have had no scaling using distilled water.
