How to turn off the sound?

is there a way of turning of the auto mode if you want to keep it measuring one thing?

Would this work to test an electric fence ?

Provided the fence voltage does not exceed 600 volts and an earth point is available for the black probe to contact' then this may be used for the measurement. Obviously any source over 100 volts requires care so as not to allow live conductors to contact bare skin.
